Arika Patneaude is a licensed independent clinical social worker and ethnic minority mental health specialist, who has worked extensively in social services since 1992. The focus of her work includes: adult mental health; homeless housing services; and pediatric medical social work, with a focus on solid organ transplant, grief and bereavement, and pediatric palliative care. 
 
Bridget Sumser is a social worker with the Palliative Care Program for adults. She focuses on the whole person and the family, addressing each patient's social and emotional well-being through counseling, care planning and assistance with navigating the health care system.

About Our Guest: 
Cynthia is a Research Professor at the University of Washington, her clinical and research expertise is in the development of body awareness to improve health and well-being. Research studies have focused on the study of MABT for multiple health conditions including Substance Dependency, Pain, PTSD, and HIV (see publications page). Interested in the processes involved in learning mindful body awareness, Cynthia studies qualitative aspects and underlying mechanisms of the MABT approach. She is a co-author of two scales to measure interoceptive awareness: the Scale of Body Connection (SBC) and the Multidimensional Assessment of Interoceptive Awareness (MAIA). Committed to increasing health care access to underserved populations, Cynthia works with local and international programs to provide and improve complementary and integrative health care through her research, teaching, and service.

It's another special pick from Laura Bryant-Earner, Healwell's Service Director. The Healwell Brain Trust welcomes Esther E. Dupont-Versteegden, Ph.D. to the podcast. Esther's presentation at IMTRC blew everyone away, and we are delighted to have her on the podcast to talk more about about her research into muscular atrophy, how researchers really spend their time, and what all this data means for massage therapists. About Our Guest:
Dr. Dupont graduated from State University Limburg at Maastricht, the Netherlands, with a Bachelor in Science degree in Movement Sciences. In 1995 she received a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Physiology from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Texas.In 1999 she became Assistant Professor of Geriatrics at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and in 2006 she accepted a position as Associate Professor in the College of Health Sciences Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Kentucky. In 2015 Dr. Dupont-Versteegden was promoted to full professor and in 2016 she accepted the position of Director of the Rehabilitation Sciences Doctoral Program.

Age-related susceptibility to muscle damage following mechanotherapy in rats recovering from disuse atrophy.  

Mechanotherapy promotes extracellular matrix remodeling in aged rat muscle recovering from disuse by reprogramming intercellular communication.

Elder Angela Overton experienced the value of interdisciplinary care as a teenager dealing with cancer. She joins the podcast today to dive deep into a discussion of equity, systemic change, and taking loving care of one another. Expect open hearts and honest talk about the barriers that prevent us from embracing each other in our full humanity.

About Our Guest:
Elder Angela Overton, MDiv., an effective communicator of what it means to receive and share Divine Holy Love. Angela is widely known for her practical and dynamic teaching style which helps people apply the timeless truths of sacred text to their everyday lives. She has been preaching, teaching and providing pastoral care for 25 years. Angela resides in Louisville, Kentucky where she has served as an associate minister at Green Castle Baptist Church for 9 years and at Burnett Avenue Baptist Church for 3 years. She is a former Contract Chaplain for Norton Healthcare filling in for Staff Chaplains; where she provided spiritual guidance, emotional support and direct care to patients, family members and staff.

Angela is the founder and director of her own 501c3 Care Well Ministry; where she works with Faith Leaders as they work in partnership to care well for those in their places of worship who are sick and shut-in. She is the Senior Advisor at the Coalition to Transform Advanced Care (C-TAC) in Washington, DC of the Interfaith Workgroup. Angela oversees faith and diversity leaders across the United States where they are functioning to improve advanced illness care in our health systems, the quality of care and determinants of goals of care for the person with advanced illness, and their caregivers by creating, providing and implementing best practices and tangible resources for distribution to faith leaders to be shared with their community.

Angela is a cancer survivor, which she believes has been one of her greatest accomplishments and best experiences outside of being a mother that she has had. It is her belief that this experience provided the lens of the patient and fueled her desire, drive and devotion to intersect spiritual and clinical care for those facing illness. She has volunteered for, and worked with numerous faith-based and not for profit organizations since her cancer experience in 1996. She cur
