Interesting ideas with Stan Hustad

Well as our new year and some new beginnings are before us I'm going to suggest that if you've never done so before to have one of the original destination vacations ... they can truly be more than a vacation, they can actually be life-changing. I can say that because I know it's true. And for those of you who've heard of dude ranches and western guest ranches  and wondered, what in the world do the dudes do at a dude ranch!  Why would I ever want to go there? And do I have to ride a horse?  What if I'm scared of horses? 

Well I remember the time when I asked a young woman at the White Stallion Ranch just what had happened to her during her week long experience. She paused and then said, "for the first time in my life I became brave."  And then there are the stories of the movies and the movie stars and it's a virtual wonderland of stories about some of the famous movies and television programs.

Again that's all a part of the story that we're going to tell you today because it's for interesting people who are looking for new interesting ideas and most importantly interesting experiences. If you're one of those kind of people, for sure this program is for you!

I missed Monday because Monday was much like the rest of the world. It was a bit of a mess. And when I'm going through a mess it's a good idea not to share it with others. So indeed I missed Monday. Let me tell you that sometimes that is a very good thing to do and one wise business leader gave his colleagues permission to on occasion, to miss Monday.  Let me tell you the story, ... and then on Sunday as I was back in cowboy land in Arizona our pastor helped us to understand how important it is that when we lose something, when we miss something, maybe it's a good idea to go out and find it. Lost and found is often times the story of a good life and a great character.  Again let me tell you the story today.

 Well let me introduce you to my friend for many years who has gone through many things in life, both agony and ecstasy, victory and loss, delight and despair... And in at all he has remained the consummate Christian gentleman.  So just recently he's gone through the ordeal and he has a story to tell you and it is a story of miracles, one of not being cured but being healed.

Take some time this weekend to hear his story and to let it stir your mind, perhaps move your spirit, and maybe even touch your heart.

That's right this program is for leaders and only those leaders who are good leaders. If you're not or don't want to be don't listen to this program.  First of all I didn't see the queen when I was in London but I didn't see her mother and her sister. I spent some time studying radio at the BBC in London and so I am very familiar with all of the things that we're now seeing, and I will join the chorus of talking about the Queen's leadership.  And who knows I might even have something original or different to say than everybody else. 

And then as a leader I heard it again, "Oh Stan we just don't have enough time."  Well that usually an excuse and not a very good reason and so let me tell you the leader ship truth about time using TIME as the acrostic of what is truly the role of many good leaders when confronted with the we don't have enough time deal.  Here's a way to deal with it.

I know you may think that sounds strange but that's what I would say if you were applying for a job with my company.  And we would not ask for a résumé because your résumé is about the past.  We are not particularly interested in what you did in the past for someone else, we would like to know what you could do for us right now and in the future. 

The world is changing because we're going to tell you that work is theater and every business is stage. And you have to think of your job as a role in a drama. 

So if you want to be ready for the business of the future let me tell you a little bit about what will be the roles that you might have to play what we call the entrepreneurial experience economy which is coming right now.

In a sad situation that is before us but true that right now there are many of us who no longer trust the education system that we have in our country.  Whether it goes from the stupidity of sex education or orientation to six year olds, to the incredible expense of sending a young adult where they will be indoctrinated more than they will be educated in how to think and serve others. 

So as a long time teacher I am hoping that some significant changes will be made this year and in the near future.  But I will tell you a great college graduate story, it is the story of the tow truck driver from Colorado Springs who help me and my family and he had a university college degree.  Let me tell you what that is all about in about 15 minutes.

Yes, that was the challenge. That's not a very popular thing these days.  Well for me this is the start of the new year and let me tell you the story of why the day after USA Labor Day is the start of my new year.  And actually it's a far better way to start the new year than the traditional January 1 which unfortunately is usually fireworks, firewater, football and too much food. 

So if you'll give me 10 minutes this evening as we're all now going back to work back to school, and back to an attempt to recover the ever elusive NORMAL, which probably will never exist anymore and probably never did, to share some short stories and make a few suggestions.  I'd be grateful for your time.

He said to me why don't you do a prayer on Labor Day if you dare.  And so I'm gonna take the dare but it's nothing very daring, it's just something we of course should do all the time maybe every day.

We press forward and do the work and we bless and praise those who do the work.  And it's good to remember that sometimes the work we do is truly the way we praise and worship God.  Let's remember that. 

Another lesson we need to learn and I learned many years ago just before Labor Day 1977 when my teacher at the broadcasting school said, "Stan from now on you will never get another holiday, so enjoy this one."  What did he mean by that well there's a story and of course storytelling is all I do so let me tell you so I'm gonna take the dare

This is Friday and this program is for leaders so if you are not a leader or want to be one please don't listen.  Do you know Tammie Jo Schults?  Well if you don't know her I can guarantee you that you've heard of her and know of her.  Tammy has nerves of steel and when there was an incredible life or death crisis she remained calm cool collected and steady.  So let me tell you, but it will only be a reminder could you already know the story.  But you need to remember Tammie.

And then may I encourage you to make sure that in your admiration for good leaders that you also remember to truly admire and value good laborers. And then I finish with a little Labor Day prayer of just a few words which I want you to repeat often as we go into the new school and working year in the midst of much chaos confusion and incompetence... Again being the difference is vital and often dangerous. But be itand do it anyhow.

I don't know what it's gonna be about but I can't say that I'm looking forward to it because when people say they're going to give me a soul talk, I get a little bit on edge.  If they want to talk about their soul that might be something else but I might have some advice if you're gonna talk about mine and perhaps about others.  Just a be careful note.  Did we hurt our kids by locking down the schools?  A few thoughts on that...

And now it's B.T.O. - back to the office for many and do we have a problem with people just quietly quitting.  We truly need leadership that will inspire us and encourage us and that should be something we wish for and even pray for.  All the best and it's only 12 minutes.
