I was eager to hear what Jordan Peterson had to say when I saw that very striking title, indeed, Why women don't like You... And he was speaking to millions of young men who find themselves in that very situation. Women don't like them. So what's the problem and what should they do. Well it's an interesting idea so I recommend that you check it out.
Then this is a tragic remembrance day, this is the day that we lost World War 4... In some ways the war had been going on for a long time but it finally became a world war on September 11, 2001. 20 years later we lost the war on August 31, 2021. Let me tell you what I mean, what the story is and now we wonder what do we do now.
Many years ago in a past life time I had the opportunity to be one of the first teachers who actually developed a class in philosophy for juniors in high school. Most people thought it would never work. It did work. Many young men and women signed up for it and for many there were life-changing things that happened. Yes in the public school because in many ways we talked about things we probably couldn't talk about today.
And one of the things I taught them was the power of both Socrates and Jesus had by asking the big questions in life. There are men and women who are now grandparents that will tell you that what they learned in Mr. H's class is still part of their life today. So may I share that with you and actually show you that you should try it yourself right now in the life situation that you are in right now. I think you'll be surprised as to how powerful it might be for you.
Well after a busy day starting the week perhaps you can use just a little bit of a lighter touch. So let me tell you the little joke, and obviously it is a joke, about whether the dog was Catholic. And you may not think it's funny and that's OK and you may not particularly like it and that's OK, but if you're offended, you've got the problem. And like every funny thing there might be a good lesson in it about ourselves and how we connect with others in with the world.
My dear and beloved and wonderful graduate advisor Dr. Shapiro in the communications department at the University of Minnesota would love to tell stories and crack jokes, but once he said with a smile, "Remember to take all Jewish humor seriously!" So perhaps in the next 15 minutes you can learn something that might be serious and important. And if not at least perhaps it made you smile and smiling is always good for you. So here it goes!
From now on our Friday program is for leaders because leaders come to work on Friday and spend time thinking strategically, generating new ideas, and seeking to inspire good folks to seriously consider how they're going to do their very best at their work and maybe even change the world. But they also take a little bit of time to probably do a little Friday partying.
So this 15 minutes will really help you and challenge you to do some of the things that most people never do, but if you want to be a leader who makes a difference and do things that matter they will be helpful to you. Remember you have to be a man or a woman who knows how to use the word and to use it powerfully and in just a few minutes will teach you how to start by thinking differently about the whole deal of getting the word out.
You may have heard the expression from the film as the prisoner was led to the execution chamber, his fellow inmates shouted out, Dead man walking. So very sad and unfortunately a lot of people are living that way. Can you even begin to imagine what it might be like to say I'm fully alive? Would you like to live that way? And does being strong and courageous today have any appeal to you? Would you like to live that way in the midst of all the chaos confusion and conflict today.
And have you ever learned the great life lesson from Bob Dylan from Hibbing Minnesota. Well you have a Lotta stuff to learn today and in less than 20 minutes we can help you.
One of the reasons that I tell business leaders that they must learn from me or from somebody they're broadcasting arts. You need to learn what I do whether you ever produce a radio program or not. In today's world if you are not familiar with how the media works and how to make it work for you, you will not be as effective as you wish and you will not have as much fun as you could. You begin to learn how to see patterns and to come up with far more ideas.
So here we go why are there so many carjackings in my former hometown of Minneapolis. When I was there we never heard of such a thing. What's the problem? And then I will Segue (that's a radio term and you know what it means? And tell you about an unusually good and inspirational breakfast that we had in a small little café in North Carolina... You will learn more here by accident than most places by design. Let me prove it.
As an encore man who's old enough to remember the 60s I often do a paraphrase of an old protest song by the Kingston Trio, where have all the leaders and good men gone? Gone to graveyards everyone. I also remember talking to my mentor who was helping me become a man and I shared with him about my feelings about a very very good man who we both knew, who had unexpectedly died. And my dear friend who was indispensable to me remarked, "Stan the graveyards of the world are full of men who others thought were indispensable." Indeed!
Well a very good man died after a rich and good life just last week, and though I never met him in so many ways I knew him and how he had changed my life just by the very being and the very writing that he did.
And he taught me a life changing question they can help change your life as it did in many ways mine, and in his memory I shared that and this tribute with you today.
Charles Darwin is obviously one of the most creative and controversial characters in modern history. To some great and tough and hard champion of the power of science as a way to knowledge. To many others he is almost the incarnate of evil in that he attempts to put God out of our world and even denying the very story of God's part in creation. When his name is used usually an image and an idea come to most people's mind. He certainly made his mark. But as my mentor Paul Harvey used to say, perhaps there's another story maybe there's another rest of the story.
.This past weekend I came up with a little story that was certainly interesting and challenging to me and now maybe I know some things that I didn't know and perhaps I can adjust some thinking that I might've had and of course I always know there's more to the story than we've ever been told about us or about anything ... And as a performance coach I have a little bit of a how to clarify your thinking idea that might flow from the whole episode.
Yes, more power. In some way all of us are seeking some kind of power to live better and perhaps achieve our goals and be happy. What kind of power do you need and what would you do with it if you had it. If I could give you $25 million, that could be very powerful for you. You don't have to worry about paying bills, having a roof over your head, enough to eat and clothes to wear. What would you do with that freedom and that power.
Today on this Friday I'm gonna give you 15 minutes in which you will learn things about power and receive some counsel and some tough questions about what it would be like if you could have more power in your life. Because my wish for all of you is indeed more power to you!
That's right, get a YOB. I have worked for many years helping people get very good not at their job but at something that was very important. Cause they did indeed have a YOB... And can I tell you a vital lesson for life that I learned watching a guy at a high school assembly program many years ago put on the show in which all he did was take balloons and make them into fantastic figures, and characters that we're just amazing. But since I was backstage watching the show I was also smart enough to figure out that this is kind of a strange program to have for a high school assembly.
After all the fun he stopped and got very serious and shared a significant truth which was vital and something that we all needed to hear. And indeed that was over a half-century ago and I still remember it, I remember it well. And that man's advice certainly lives on because I'm telling it to you now and the others all over the world. He would be amazed.
