Interesting ideas with Stan Hustad

Again it's Future Friday time to do a little bit of thinking about your future and what you should be doing now they have a little more control over your future destiny and how things will go for you.  This is the Time of confusion and so may I go back and ask some of the classic questions that helped me helped many people decide whether they were doing the right thing or if they should even be trying to claim the career ladder or break the glass ceiling.

So join me in lesson 9 of our update of the Dale Carnegie book that we call Make Good Friends and Make Your Mark in the Marketplace of Today. We are asking what career ladder should you climb so that you don't one day say, I should've done something different 30 years ago.  So let's see where this challenging conversation goes for you.

Let me tell you the story behind the title by asking you a question.  Do you want to be a POW or how about being a POI ?  Well in today's world been one of those kinds of people might be one of the keys do you making good friends and making your mark in the marketplace today.  A POW is a person who understands the times because they have some deep wisdom about how the world works and how we can solve problems and make things better.

A POI is a person through their achievements their friendships and their connections, and how they care for people has incredible influence both in life and in the marketplace. People pay attention to them and do what they suggest or go where they lead. So if you'll give me about 15 minutes today I'd like to introduce you to what Dale Carnegie might say to you today... Because indeed the world does step aside!

We are on Lesson 7 of the Dale Carnegie How to Win Friends and Influence; people modern day update just for you. A few years ago a rather brash young and very good tennis player defied tradition by not wearing whites which was the standard tennis tradition.  And when questioned about it made that classic statement, "Image is everything."  Well that's not quite true.     But indeed it is the first thing and it's vitally important because whether you know it or not you already have an image and it probably isn't a good one.

So let me tell you how you need to learn how to manage your image if you want to be successful in business and life today.  This may be some of the best 15 minutes that you will spend in improving yourself and your success today.

This is an important lesson. Dale Carnegie didn't go into this that much but this definitely flows out of everything he said. So let me tell you the story how you can best learn how to deal with the critics and the criticism that will come to you. Please remember that just because you are kind does not mean that you have to be weak.

This lesson could be expanded greatly and I would be glad to help you and your leadership learn how to be even better at being a good listener, yet how to be strong and be challenging when you need to be.  Leadership in anything in life is a difficult role and position to be in and this is why you need to know how to give and take cand take and give criticism.

I know this for sure. Everyone who wants to be successful realizes that they need more wisdom in their life and greater influence in their life and business.  So what are you doing every day in some way to be a little bit wiser and a little bit more influential. What are you doing every day that might increase your income..  Well you need to spend 20 minutes every day reading, thinking, and praying, about that.  

And just for you on this Monday evening I have a 20 minute presentation that I believe will be helpful to you as I challenge you to be a person of wisdom and a person with influence.  So give me 20 minutes and I think it will be useful for you.  And I wish you all the best in this challenging week before us.

 Unfortunately we're going through some deep difficulties and one of the things that we no lack is trust.  There is very little trust for so many of the ways and institutions that are now in leadership in our country and world today.  Well a good friend of mine and a podcast colleague in many ways has a wonderful program every Saturday about the Cowboy Way of Life.  Did you know that July 30 is International Friendship Day.  Well that's neat because today my talk is about Making Good Friends.  It is from the old archives where I did a modern day update of the classic book by Dale Carnegie, and how to win friends and influence people.  Today we have a lesson for this is focused right on that big problem today that most people don't know how to do that and lots of people don't have any friends. 

Friends are vital to a good life and true success. So in 12 minutes today I'm going to share with you some things you've never heard before about how you truly can know how to make good friends.  I think it will surprise you.

That is true. Every person is wearing the same sign and you might learn one of the great secrets of happiness and success if you will learn what that sign says and then see if you can do what it says... 

This is more original with me than it is with Dale Carnegie, but I guarantee you that he would roundly applaud my idea and probably claim a little bit of as he's own.  So listen it's only about 12 minutes today and this turbulent Thursday, but if you will listen to this listen, maybe even a couple times and for sure share it with friends and colleagues. 

You just might discover on the keys to making good friends and making your mark in the marketplace.

 It is what is called one of my signature statements. Most of my students around the world and coaching clients will hear this often. What are you fearful of today?  How can I help you fear less?  There are many things to be afraid of and the world today is in a mess because most of the leaders of our organizations have shown themselves to be incompetent, and often because they do not do what is right. 

They do things to protect themselves, to enhance themselves, and take care of themselves rather than serving others.  And such people are usually full of fear and anger.  So in 20 minutes today I would like to show you that if you really want to make good friends and make your mark in the global marketplace, learn how to be "fear less".
