December 15, 2021S.11 E.04 – Terrance Hobbs of SuffocationSend us a textWe welcome guitarist Terrance Hobbs from one of death metal's finest outfits, Suffocation. After 3 decades of trekking the world while playing pure classic death metal riffs for millions of fans, we give Terrance the chance to sit and reflect on these countless memories. A lot of hard work during these years yet a rewarding experience. Everything came together as he and his bandmates unleashed the newest live album ''Live In North America”, which covers the entirety of their North American tour in 2018. While everything did come together, it also served as the final page in the band's most recent chapter – and that is the departure of their long time friend, bandmate, and frontman, Frank Mullen. It was time Frank left the band to pursue a new chapter of his own, but on a high note (literally). We ask Terrance about the positive impact that Frank has left on him and many others within the metal community. At the same time, these are quite the big shoes to fill as they have now found a new frontman who will lead Suffocation to the newest chapter, and that is seasoned vocalist Ricky Myers. Terrance mentions that even though there will never be anyone like Frank, Ricky was the perfect choice for the band's new frontman. Whether it be Frank, or Ricky – one thing is certain, Suffocation will forge ahead with some of the most exciting new music set to drop in the near future. They are 8 albums into their renowned career, and Terrance is more than eager to get the new tunes to the forefront. Newly signed to Napalm Records, Patrick talks about the excitement of getting his own music out into the world with a renowned label on his side. Gemma has seen and learned things from the inside and out, and that has proved as evidence which helped her arrive at this point in her career. Their highly-anticipated 5th album “Through Life And Death” just dropped, but not without the growth, experience, and dedication to their artistry over the years. They have been around for over a decade within the grounds of Sweden and the rest of Europe, establishing themselves as one of the more promising metal acts to come out of Scandinavia. Erik and Kristofer talk about how it can get a bit unorthodox trying to emulate other well-known native bands such as In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, and At The Gates – but they also talk about how they created their own distinct sound which make Eyes Wide Open stand out from this convoluted Swedish heavy metal crowd of bands. Additionally, these two talented individuals take us through the themes, concepts, production, and even the eye-opening artwork behind each of their releases.
