PHASE: WAXING GIBBOUS

SEGMENT: OTHER SIDE OF THE MOON

MARVEL FANFARE VOL. 1 #39 - #*@%&$!

Released August 1988

Writer - Michael Carlin

Penciler - Bill Reinhold

Inker - Jim Fern

Colorist - Linda Lessmann

Letterer - Joe Rosen

Editor - Al Milgrom

A lonely man prepares a bomb before dressing as a shiekh and catches a cab to the UN. Cab driver, Jake Lockley (aka Moon Knight) notices the nervousness of the man, as well as an aversion to bright and strobing lights. Amongst profanities in a city where you need to shoulder your way through, Jake drops the man off before heading to Gena's diner for a feed.

The news on the TV blasts on in Gena's diner and Jake hears of how a man in Arabic dress has taken the UN hostage with a bomb. Recalling that it was the man he had in his cab,Jake cusses before leaving a tip for Gena and rushes out. Gena picks up the wayward and measly tip and in turn cusses back at Jake's behaviour.

Jake calls Frenchie and preps him for an assault on the UN, and after changing gear, Moon Knight swoops into the building, past the guards and the crowd of reporters….much to their chagrin.

Moon Knight meets the terrorist face to face, and instead of engaging in physical combat, proceeds to flick the lights on and off. Playing to what is revealed to be the man's propensity for epileptic seizures, the man soon faints and is restrained, not before Moon Knight ensures the briefcase with the bomb doesn't house any dead man triggers.

Later that same day, Jake Lockely peruses the streets for a cab fare when a man dressed in Arabic garb tries to hail down his cab. Once bitten, twice shy, Lockley high tails it out of there...leaving the wannabe passenger shouting expletives in the street.

Justin: 🌖 7.5 /10 - Solid Round Boi

Rey: 🌖 7 /10 - Solid Round Boi

In a short sharp tale, we see Moon Knight use his wits more than anything else, but still have time to drive around New York in a taxi dressed as the Fist of Khonshu...terrorism, seizures and expletives...all at no extra cost!

Shine those idols, and dust off the cape....IT'S TIME TO GET YOUR KHONSHU ON!

EPISODE 242:

Justin 'The Owl' returns to the show to chat about a sentimental favourite, and the very first time The Punisher encounters Moon Knight!

PHASE: WANING WAXING CRESCENT

SEGMENT: LUNAR-PICK CLASSIC RUN REVIEW

THE PUNISHER ANNUAL VOL. 1 # 1 - 'Knight Fight'

Released September 1989

Mike Baron

Bill Reinhold

Gregory Wright

Janice Chiang

Carl Potts

After witnessing a seemingly normal customer satiate their needs with 'hunger by gerbil' Marc Spector investigates which leads him to a mysterious organisation named, 'Save Our Society'.

Across town, The Punisher tracks down a small time criminal who has been knocking off eldery women's social security checks for drugs and it's not long before Frank is also led towards the shady, 'Save Our Society' – a NFP organisation dedicated to curing drug addicts.

Both Moon Knight and Punisher investigate one of the 'Save our Society' clinics in Long Island and upon finding The Punisher's intended target, Ralph Newton, things turn ugly. The two are attacked by serpentine humanoids as Ralph himself turns into a snake like being but the Punisher makes short work of him.

Regrouping back at Moon Knight's mansion, the next target is Borwardt Estate on Long Island, where both Madam Viper and a Dr. Tyrone are stationed and where Save our Society are based. More battles with serpent men ensues but this time Viper manages to drug the Punisher with what appears to be the same drug turning all the addicts into snake people. Frank goes mad, shooting anything and everything as Moon Knight continues to battle his way through in pursuit of Viper.

Viper manages to make good her escape and Moon Knight clashes with the drugged Punisher but manages to subdue him with a nifty stint of mesmerism.

Frank wakes up at Grant mansion, grateful to Moon Knight for rescuing, but he soon leaves to continue his ever raging war on crime.

Justin: 🌖 8 /10 - Big Beautiful Yellow Man

Rey: 🌖 7.5 /10 - Big Beautiful Yellow Man

Justin and Rey have fun with this one - especially with how Moon Knight gets involved in the first place; and how he manages to calm down the Punisher...you'll need to read it (and listen to this episode) to believe it!

MOON KNIGHT VOL. 8 # 14 - 'Birth & Death Part 5'

Jake Thomas

Kathleen Wisneski

In the past, Marc Spector, mercenary, is left for dead in the Egyptian desert and as he makes his way across the sands, his other identities begin to speak to him. Steven and Jake comfort Marc and ask him to rest. They also assure him that HE will be coming soon.

As night falls, Marc starts to hear Khonshu's voice and it's as if by the light of the moon, Marc is led towards a great temple. A dying Marc pleads for life and strikes a bargain with the apparition of Khonshu, who dubs him Khonshu's Knight.

Back in the present, Mr. Knight walks through the hospital in search of Khonshu. He hears a scream at what appears to be Marlene but as he enters one of the rooms, he is greeted with Ammut and one of her Jackals. Mr. Knight is drugged and laid out on the table in the room. Ammut has rigged him up for shock therapy and in a strange display of parallel lives and realities, Khonshu is also shown laying the dying Marc onto an altar in the temple.

As the switch is flicked and a jolt of current surges through Mr. Knight, it does the same to Marc (in the past) and Marc finds himself resurrected in the temple, where he made a deal with Khonshu. He sees Marlene there and to his surprise she says that he was dead only moment ago. Marc - now having been reborn by Khonshu - has a clarity of purpose and he describes himself as, " ...a ghost. A Specter of the Moon. The Moon's Knight of Vengeance". He grabs the robe off the statue of Khonshu, proclaiming he has work to do.

Marc's resolve is reflected in Mr. Knight and all of a sudden, Mr. Knight breaks free of the shock therapy restraints and overcomes Ammut and her Jackals. He heads to the rooftop of the hospital and finds Khonshu there, waiting for him. Khonshu throws illusion after illusion at Marc but none can overcome him. Left with only Khonshu in fornt of him, Marc refuses to be afraid anymore, and it's this determination that weakens Khonshu. Marc combines all his identities and in one final act of defiance, he crushes Khonshu into dust.

With Khonshu gone, there is a peaceful calm over Marc and he looks up at the moon and relishes the silence. As it begins to rain Marc questions a little the reality he is in, but he doesn't let it worry him for too long. The rain on his face feels real enough, and for Marc, that's good enough for him.

Dr Sterman and Mr. Knight discuss a matter troubling to Mr. Knight. From his confrontation with Hawley, Mr. Knight now knows someone is behind the scenes, contracting killers to 'break' him. Dr Sterman wonders whether the reason Mr. Knight called an emergency session was because he suspected her, but she is surprised when he admits that he fears it's actually himself intent on his own destruction.

Later, Reese approaches Mr. Knight concerned that he is going back on his word to protect the likes of herself and Terry (both vampires) as Terry was found attacked and injured from multiple crescent darts. Mr. Knight assures her it wasn't him and upon investigating the rooftops, Moon Knight is soon attacked by the culprit - The Hunter's Moon!

The two Fists battle across the city, with Hunter's Moon determined to correct Moon Knight and bring him back into Khonshu's fold. Certain irregularities are revealed, concerning Hunter's Moon - Moon Knight lacks the fighting prowess of one anointed by Khonshu through the Chorus of Ordination; He also is appalled at Moon Knight forming a congregation of their sworn enemies (vampires).

He leaves Moon Knight a wreck and makes his way to the Midnight Mission to remove the distraction, and terminate all those associated with Moon Knight.

Hunter's Moon breaks in but before he can cause any major damage, Moon Knight dives back in and bludgeons Hunter's Moon to an inch of his life…

Moon Knight leaves Hunter's Moon with a grim warning, should he ever again consider to jeopardise Moon Knight's friends….'Avoid my attention in the future, lest I become even more interesting'...

SEGMENT: OTHER SIDE OF THE MOON

MARVEL FANFARE VOL. 5 #38 -

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO PODUNK SLAM?

Released June 1988

Writer - Jo Duffy

Penciler - Judith Hunt

Inker - Bill Sienkiewicz

Colorist - Eric Lee

Letterer - Jim Novak

At the Danielle Clark Home for Lost and Friendless Girls, a mysterious intruder enters the dorm, leaving all the girls scared and running for cover.

Meanwhile Marc and his art dealer, Spence ruminate over a mysterious artifact named The High Priests Death Mask of Koala Munba. Marc agrees to loan it to the natural history museum before his calling for philanthropic work beckons with Frenchie at the door.

Coincidentally, it's to take the girls of the Danielle Clark Home to a Podunk Slam concert...an abrasive and corporate boy band that gains mainstream appeal.

Marc later receives visions from his own High Priests of Khonshu, warning of Podunk Slam, but he can't make out why.

Deciding to spy on the band, Moon Knight reveals a potential conspiracy, before being discovered and swings away, escaping the shots of Podunk Slam's bodyguards.

Moon Knight later visits the band in their dressing room, and after piecing together the puzzle, warns them of the curse that the relic has bestowed on them. Podunk Slam's manager, Appletree intervenes and attacks Moon Knight. Calling on the crazed fans to do his work, Appletree incites a frenzy and the crazed fans burst into the dressing room, attacking Moon Knight.

It's revealed the Death Mask of Koala Munba has cast a curse on Podunk Slam - they can retain their youth at the expense of their fans. Appletree had cut the deal for the band, ensuring their success, but at the expense of many a girl's youth. Moon Knight shatters the relic and Podunk Slam return to their older, aged selves, much to the disgust of their fans.
