In trying to understand what is happening in this crazy crazy world, two things are very important - the place where it happens and the time when it happens. These two questions pretty much give the entire context to the mind of a culture. Take the World War II for example, where and when this event happened answers a lot of questions about how the people of the participating countries think.

While we have documented through time, WHAT people thought. Could geographical features explain, in a longer time frame, why cultures think in a certain way? Why are the Americans generally so paranoid? Why are the Chinese so stubborn about their military expansion? Why did Vasco Da Gama or Christopher Columbus want to find India? "Monsoon" by Robert D Kaplan - This book is all about giving you the lowdown on how a geographical feature affects a whole country's mindset thereby affecting the way a whole culture behaves. From the smallest cultures to the biggest ones, all of them are affected by geography and the timely events that change these geographies. This particular book travels the Indian Ocean and its cultures. India is obviously at the center of it, quite literally.

By the end of this book, you'll be shocked to know that Vasco Da Gama was not the first European to "Discover" India and not quite shocked to know that Gujjus are everywhere from the east coast of Africa to the islands in Indonesia, since time immemorial. To the shock of many world-class entitled political commentators on social media, BJP has been kicked out of three states where they ruled. MP has been lost after 13 years, Chattisgarh after 15 and Rajasthan is in the usual cyclic churn. Is Modi wave dead? Is 2019 looking bleak for the mighty Amit Shah-Modi combine? The so-called "core RW twitter" is in a state of panic. They want their demands to be met right away, else they won't be voting for BJP in 2019.

Boo hoo. Cry us a river, children. Who the hell said you are important?

So yeah, we are back and more intolerant than ever with the first episode in season 2 of "Intolerant Indians" and it coincides with thalaivar Rajinikanth's birthday, so it made us think. First, these whining babies need to STFU because they are clearly missing the larger picture. But of course, they have a point. While our ideological battles are not actually fought in elections, in a system like ours that is the only way to retain power. So what do we do?

This is what we try to find out and we think thalaivar Rajini might have some answers. His party is not here yet but we might need his politics more than ever now. Find out why.

Tamil Nadu - Only when we started digging its political history did we find that the state’s name didn’t exist before 1969. Armed with such ignorance, we take a journey into the history of politics in Tamil Nadu to see where we have come from. Because if you look at where we are right now, amidst all this circus and gymnastics, it is hard to understand what’s happening and even harder to trust our leaders, as the two major leaders who have been playing musical chair with the CM post passed away. This change has created a crisis in ideology and naturally a crisis in leadership. New leaders are emerging, from the same cinema field which has been acting as the propagandist for politicians since the 60s. Not only that, old parties are facing internal conflicts and the ruling government is hanging by a thread, with one of the accusations against it being a puppet of the ruling central government. The BJP which already gained ground during the Lok Sabha polls is gaining further ground not in vote share but in mind share. Overall, the people of Tamil Nadu are facing uncertainty like we have never seen before. The Kerala Communist Government which has a habit of disobeying the Supreme Court this time felt compelled to readily act on a recent judgement on the Sabarimala temple, which allowed women of all ages to enter its sacred premises.

Just a day after the judgement, women all over Kerala protested and said they are #readytowait and said none of the actual devotees will go. These protests, which were actually huge, were completely ignored by the same media which happily went up to Sabarimalai before the opening of the temple. In fact they made it worse, by sending female journalists rather than male.

So, with the help of Kerala Police, women journalists from far off places tried to enter. Then some so-called activists tried to enter. Not a single actual woman devotee would want to try, but somehow these activists who dressed up like devotees or sometimes even like riot police tried all kinds of dirty tricks to enter but were denied entry by highly emotional Ayyappan bhakthas.

The Sabarimalai temple has now been closed after being open for 5 days, and throughout these days, emotions ran high. A lot of so-called intellectuals exposed their dirty minds and it was all on display to see, on social media. Meanwhile, Ayyappa devotees successfully held the fort and did not let the foreign ideology of the Supreme Court to desecrate this sacred space.

Russian President Vladimir Putin recently came to India to sign a bunch of deals. Most importantly, a deal for the sale of a anti-aircraft and anti-missile defense system called the S-400 and secondly, six new nuclear plants in the country.

Ever since Russia invaded Crimea, the US has been sanctioning the country and everyone associated with it, so India too received a warning. But still, we went ahead with these deals, because of course, we needed it.

We'll be defying the US-Iran sanctions as well, because well, we need that oil. With all these defiant moves, we have taken a firm stand against the US, which is our close ideological partner when it comes to being democracies, by putting our national interests ahead.

The US is a global superpower that has the ability to stop any trade. So if we have taken a stand, it means that we are entering a new era of geopolitics where there is not one superpower that will dictate everything, rather there will be multiple super powers. A multi polar geopolitical landscape is in the making, Putin knows it, Xi Jinping knows this, and it seems like we Indians are also accepting this new reality.

In one of them, the Section 497 of the Indian constitution has been termed to be in contradictory with the right to equality of gender. While that is a welcome judgement which will bring us to the modern era, there seems to be a sinister move by the media to paint it as a celebration of adultery.

In the case above, the court is right in saying it has no business in an individual's private affairs but the same court, in another case, based on a PIL by some activists to let women of all ages enter Sabarimala, has rendered a judgement contradicting with its stand on not entering into private religious matters of the Hindus. We debate and try to provide some extra information on these cases, with contribution from Nikhitha Harish, a dear friend who helped us with the context.
