This week’s episode is a marketing highlight from one of the most monumental marketing programs that we were ever a part of, the Olympic Torch Relay. Tune in to hear the story of our first Relay, how we learned to pivot on the road, and the power of a simple media message.
Dill is notorious for having some BIG ideas - and over the years, many people had their doubts - but we (almost) always were able to pull these crazy ideas off. In this episode, we share the 6 rules that we live by that have helped us accomplish BIG goals. This week's marketing case study comes just in time for Master's week. We revisit Dill's days working with O'Doul's NA beer - long before NA beer was a "thing". Tune in to hear how the perfect serve idea was born and glean lessons on culture, quality control, and the idea that there are no new ideas.
In this week’s episode we talk about the namesake of this podcast and Dill’s favorite topic of all time: being an Intrepid Spirit. What does it mean to be an Intrepid Spirit and how can we show up as an Intrepid Spirit in all areas of our life? Tune in to find out.
We never know where marketing lessons with Dill are going to go, but one thing is guaranteed - there will be takeaways that can be used in business today.
The Cherry Coke/Sega Sonic Shuttle started in 1993 and was so successful that it was repeated the following two years, 1994 & 1995. 33 markets, 1.74 million samples, 800,000 Sega Sonic game plays, and over 1 million incremental media mentions. This marketing program is an old idea that would be great in today’s world as people are starving for human touch now more than ever.
In this episode, we urge you to be creative about how you approach using physical marketing tools and where you find them - new is not always better, there are ways to bring old assets back to life that can be even more meaningful to audiences than something new.
Embracing Change. It can be scary; humans are naturally resistant to change - we don't like being taken outside of our comfort zones. But adapting to change is a necessary part of evolution. In this episode, we dissect ways that industries, communities, and people have embraced change for the better.
A program that gave out 600,000 samples, traveled 120,000 miles and made over 20 million impressions per year. This program started early in the game of understanding the importance of giving a creative experience that you can't get anywhere else - it married music and sport and gave everyone in the family something to get excited about.
The lessons include: the importance of longevity, the impact of a t-shirt, and how the human touch makes such a difference when selling your product. It's about connecting to the brand and bringing that brand to life in a meaningful way.
So what's next? You've gotta be looking 1-5 years ahead. Listen to the end to hear Dill's thought starter for the future!
Everything Communicates. Communication extends beyond what we say; it’s also how we listen, how we present ourselves, and how we communicate with ourselves.
This series will feature marketing programs from our past, which we think you can still takeaway tidbits that apply to today's world. The first story takes us back to a traveling rock wall in the 1980s. Tune in to hear why Dill doesn't believe in taking no for an answer. There are no new ideas, but rather can you execute them and bring them to life in a way that's relevant in today's world.
In this episode we go in depth on everyone's favorite Dillism: Plan the Work...Work the Plan. We dive into the Four F's: Focus, Flexible, Finish, Fun. And share examples of both times that things have not gone according to plan (because let's be real, they never do), and how to embrace a good pivot strategy.
