  • How Travis Invented Hydro Flask, the Most Used Water Bottle in the World!
    https://www.hydroflask.com/
Hydro Flask makes double wall vacuum insulated stainless steel water bottles backed by a lifetime warranty. Its bottles maintain beverage temperature (hot or cold) for hours, and they're durable and easy to carry. Put another way: "Colder. Hotter. Longer. Happier."
"One Simple Idea" author Stephen Key interviews fellow entrepreneur Travis Rosbach, the creator of the Hydro Flask — the most used water bottle in the world! Travis shares the remarkable story of how he came up with this simple yet category-defining product idea and ventured it to market, including his aha moment of invention, his prior background, prototyping, working with manufacturers overseas, bootstrapping his first order for 1,500 units, selling at a market in Portland, how fast his company grew, finding investors, and why he ultimately decided to sell it about 10 years after he came up with the original idea of this unique and beloved water bottle.
A former commercial pilot, dive instructor, and fencing company owner, Travis was not formally educated in entrepreneurship, product development, engineering, or marketing. Instead, he threw his whole weight behind this endeavor and also credits serendipitous moments for leading to his success. He also points out that he knew how to handle stress from previous jobs, which came in handy many times throughout this process.
In a surprise twist, Travis reveals Stephen's book "One Simple Idea" is one of his most marked up of all time. How cool is that?
Travis, thank you for sharing your awesome stories and inspiring us with your success! It's awesome that your original vision is being carried out today.

  • The Hang-O-Matic Sells in Home Depot, Bed Bath, & Target
    https://www.hangomatic.com/ + https://theonepitch.com/
The Hang-O-Matic was invented by Jared Rabin while he was in college. Later, he partnered with Karina, his now-wife, to co-create and help him bring it to market. Their desire to solve a simple problem with an innovative, yet easy-to-use solution led to Hang-O-Matic being a household and DIY essential. Together, they've been incredibly successful at landing their invention in retailers everywhere, including Home Depot, Hobby Lobby, Bed Bath & Beyond, Home Depot, Hobby Lobby, Menards, Target, The Grommet, and more.
Congratulations Karina and Jared! The problem of no one hanging their artwork and shelves because it's inconvenient and difficult is a pervasive one — it's even a common meme on social media sites like Instagram.
In this interview, Karina opens up about their invention journey and how they commercialized the Hang-O-Matic. First they ventured, and then they licensed. They never took investors. Karina says that she will "never do this again" because of the difficulty involved. She describes how Shark Tank mislead them into believing that if you have a large purchase order, you can just go to the bank with it. Initially, Bed Bath & Beyond wanted to put their invention in 200 stores, but then it became all of their stores. Then they got a second huge purchase order from Joanne's — a seriously great problem, but a problem nonetheless, because floating an order that large requires serious capital! The banks said no.
Karina also explains how they found a licensee and why they needed one. They got a licensing deal last April. Incredible! Their licensee took on all the responsibilities of operations and inventory. In order for them to expand, they had to take on investment or get a licensing deal. Jared still works full-time.
    " The Hang-O-Matic, husband not required." — Karina Rubin, Hang-O-Matic co-creator

Jim Porterfield's invention the Core Builder Pro could change your life. It's a handheld core strengthening device that strengthens the 6 muscle groups that comprise the core forming “Mother Natures' Corset." Jim's invention is so important because the whole body is supported by the core; your front and your back is all tied together, from your neck to your legs! We all need successful pain management and to strengthen your core.
Jim is a retired physical therapist and athletic trainer. He has written four textbooks on functional anatomy. In-between seeing patients and studying functional anatomy he also started a medical billing company and a software design company. Stephen and Jim met in Michigan at an event for inventors; today he's working with inventRight coach Scott Putnam.
Jim and Stephen dive into Jim's invention and how he brought it to market, including many techniques for getting testimonials about the benefits of your product idea.

  • How Arkady Licensed His Marijuana Product
    https://roachpack.com/
Arkady Grigoryan lives in Los Angeles, California. He is a Vice
President at Century Auto, an auto broker where he has worked for 16
years. After becoming an inventRight student, he licensed his packaging invention for pre-rolled joints to a global
packaging company that recently entered the marijuana industry. Because
it concerns pre-rolled joints, he expects it to roll out to the two other major
markets for pre-rolls, which are cigars and cigarettes. The big benefits of his
invention are that it’s child resistant and allows a smoker to store what is
left of their joint in the same package.

  • This Toy & Game Illustrator Can Bring Your Idea to Life
    www.kennyk.com
Kenny Kiernan of Kenny Kiernan Illustration Studio has been an illustrator for 20 years. On his website, he displays the images he's made of toys, games, and packaging for toys and games that made it to production. Licensing expert Stephen Key interviews Kenny about what it's like working with inventors and the right way to work with an art illustrator.
Say you have a great idea for a toy or game, but you can't draw or illustrate — what can you do? You can hire someone like Kenny who can help you with your visuals. In this video, Kenny discusses the different kinds of illustrations he makes and the order he recommends getting them in. As an artist, he's not a sell sheet designer; he makes the images you might use on your sell sheet or in a finished pitch.
Kenny collaborates with the inventors he works with to get the right illustration. He also creates animations. Kenny needs a brief description of what you need to get started. Finished artwork, like you can see on his homepage, can take months. For something basic, he can turn a project around in as soon as two weeks. He says, it's a given we're going to go back and forth a few times to get to the right product. He also reveals his pricing, which is quite affordable.
    Thank you very much Kenny!

  • How Warren Invented BetterBlocks ($45 Million Dollar Idea)
Product licensing expert Stephen Key interviews BetterBlocks inventor Warren Wilson for a second time in their two-part series. In this video, Warren and Stephen discuss creativity, inspiration, and how novel product ideas get created and brought to market. After Warren came up with the idea for BetterBlocks, which was to make "blocks that move," he had to figure out exactly how to do that. He discusses prototyping, solving problems in inventing and design, and the power of observation. Remember: Seemingly unrelated things can be brought together!
Eventually, 90 different kinds of blocks were invented and brought to market. When children experienced BetterBlocks, they ran with it — as well as his manufacturing partners, who also came up with ideas for new line extensions.
Warren also explains how his product impacted parents and how meaningful that is to him. This video is all about the love of inventing!
Congratulations again Warren! You inspire us!
Watch Stephen interview Warren about his invention journey for the first time: https://youtu.be/dtZQy8Dffb8
    About BetterBlocks:
With BetterBlocks you can build models which bend, shape curve and move! With regular blocks (LEGO) you can only build models which are ridged; they don’t bend or move. BetterBlocks ended up being a $45-million-dollar idea. In its prime, Warren is proud to admit, it gave LEGO a bit of a headache. BetterBlocks is no longer on the market today. However, Warren recently joined the inventRight Bootcamp Coaching program to learn our 10-step system of licensing product idea and is considering licensing BetterBlocks again.
He joins world-renowned licensing expert and inventRightTV host Stephen Key to discuss how he commercialized Better Blocks. Warren describes himself as a reclusive guy who was working out of a shed in his backyard in Adelaide, Australia when he had this idea. He ended up licensing BetterBlocks to a DRTV company and within just 12 months, was thrust into a thriving international business. In its heyday, BetterBlocks were selling around the world in America, Europe, and Australia. To be honest, he says, he was sometimes out of his depth.
Warren had the idea in 1988. It took him a couple of years to make prototypes. Warren describes how his found his licensee and how he pitched his idea. He built an injection molding machine himself to make the blocks. He had about 1,000 blocks when he approached his future licensee. He literally took the blocks with him to the U.S. and asked: What do you think? His licensee filmed Warren and his blocks and then shared it with other people.
Warren explains the challenges of making this idea a reality, why persistence is key, and the importance of family support.
Warren, thank you for sharing your remarkable story on inventRightTV!

Hilary OHare of Brain Fart Productions is a machinist, which requires her to keep her long hair up all day. Nothing on the market could do that without pain and falling out, so she invented Holdilocks™. Hilary says, “It works perfectly plus so much more!” She has inventory and has applied for a non-provisional utility patent application. She is current in discussions with a DRTV feeder company.
In this interview with inventRight cofounder Stephen Key, Hilary discusses how she commercialized her product. She describes 3-D printing her invention for proof-of-concept. She made a sell sheet, but admits that her product requires a demonstration to be fully understood and that marketing is an ongoing challenge. She attended a trade show in September of this past year, right after her she received her first round of inventory, and describes the volume of work required and the challenge of standing out. She describes finding a manufacturer, the minimum amount of product she had to purchase, selling online, and more.
