At the end of the First World War promises from the British Government to build a land fit for heroes failed to materialise. Luton ex-servicemen unhappy with unemployment and other grievances, particularly the high handed attitude of Mayor Henry Impey, took matters into their own hands. In the ensuing riots Luton Town Hall was burned down. A century later Jon Bickley performs his own original songs about the events that occurred in Luton town centre between 19th - 21st July 1919.

Each month we select a past Invisible Folk Club radio show to air on the podcast channel. This show is a special edition combining selected parts of two shows. The Rickmansworth Folk Festival takes place on Saturday 13th of July and we have been invited to curate the Invisible Folk Club Stage. It is a great honour. Scotsman Stewart came relatively late to music discovering the art of guitar and song writing well beyond the first flush of youth. Neil had been playing electric guitar in various bands for many years as well as being proficient on violin, mandolin and banjo. The guys are gradually raising their profile in south east England and who knows where beyond. Honesty and authenticity abound.

Doug Jenner has been a major driving force behind the Kimpton Folk Festival. Now in its 4th year with Doug as its Folk Events Chairman this excellent one day festival has gone from strength to strength. This year’s event is Saturday 6th June with an impressive line-up. Doug is an Australian fiddle singer resident in England for the last 20 years. He started his musical career in Sydney with bush bands driven by a passion for Aussie folk music.

Ragged Staff energetic music has considerable dynamics, sometimes from a whisper to a roar. For a number of years they were a success on the folk scene in south east England but in 2016 decided to call it a day to pursue other projects. Invisible Folk were delighted to persuade them to reform for this session.
