Irish Breakdown

Notre Dame has had shaky play at WR in past seasons, something that must change. Bryan breaks down the past WR play, and talks about how the unit will be asked to do a lot more in the Mike Denbrock offense. The WR will be far more important to success now than they were in the past.

What do you think of this possibility?

* Fill-in the blank...It’s BLANK that Minnesota Vikings rookie JJ McCarthy only threw 34 total passes in the fourth quarter for Michigan last season.

* With NFL training camps under way, we’re going to start doing this question with each division: How many teams from the AFC North can win the Super Bowl this season?

* Jim Leyland was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame this weekend. Who’s the next manager who should get the call?

Notre Dame football coach Marcus Freeman has been in New York City the past two days talking Fighting Irish football on ESPN. Irish Breakdown has a few of Freeman's comments about the impact on the Irish of the expanded 12-team College Football Playoff, including:

* A team could now get into the playoff with two losses. How does that impact Notre Dame and preparation?

* How expanded CFP could impact scheduling.

* How Notre Dame not being able to be higher than a No. 5 seed in the expanded College Football Playoff factors into preparation on and off the field.

* Top four conference champions get first-round playoff byes but Notre Dame can't. What does that mean for the Irish?

Today's Rapid Fire topics include:

* We rate Notre Dame's new look home football jerseys they will wear this season.

* We have audio of Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin calling out Paul Finebaum for costing him his USC job a few years back.

* Fill-in the blank...It’s BLANK that former Alabama head coach Nick Saban is picking Georgia and Texas to play in the SEC championship game in his first season as an ESPN analyst.

* We had a late couple of We In/We Out questions posted in the New Champions Lounge Thursday night: Florida State and Clemson will stay in the ACC, because no other conference will take them because of their lawsuit against the ACC win or lose. We in or we out on that?

* Neither Clemson or Florida State wins the ACC championship. We in We out on that one?

* Do you prefer to work from home or at the office?

* Fill-in the blank...Sam Hartman getting drafted by the United Football League’s Birmingham Stallions is BLANK.

Here’s the list of players Freeman took with him: Jordan Clark, Riley Leonard, Beaux Collins, Howard Cross, Rylie Mills, Mitchell Evans, Xavier Watts, Benjamin Morrison, and Steve Angeli. We have thoughts on the list and which of those players might be named captains this season.

* We hear some of Freeman's comments from his SportsCenter interview with Notre Dame alum Hannah Storm.

* We hear a heated discussion between ESPN personalities Chris "Mad Dog" Russo and Paul Finebaum. They debated whether or not Lincoln Riley has been successful in his first two years at USC.
