Irish Breakdown

Notre Dame is going through a rough patch on offense, but when you look at the numbers, and the quality of the opponents, there is no doubt the unit is improved. With a final four games against teams with below average defenses (other than Clemson), the offense has a chance to finish even stronger.

Notre Dame's defense has carried the team for chunks of the season and ranks among the nation's best. But looking at the final four opponents, there's a chance this defense could finish on an extremely strong note.

At times this season the Notre Dame offense has been quite good, and at other times it has struggled. The Irish need that unit to finish on a strong note. I break down areas where the unit must improve if its going to reach its potential in the final four games.

I kicked off this week's Notre Dame Midweek Rundown with a quick look at Notre Dame's final four opponents. Needless to say, the final stretch isn't nearly as tough as what the Irish faced so far, but it will still be a test.

Rapid Fire topics include:

* Sam Hartman cited UFC champion Jon Jones after the Irish win over USC.

* What’s more likely to happen: Notre Dame has one receiver top 100 yards in a game this season or a running back not named Audric Estime goes over 100 rushing yards in a game?

* With Notre Dame sitting at two losses with four games to go, there have been several Irish fans saying Steve Angeli needs to get more meaningful reps. Do we Buy or Sell that?

* New York Post sports media columnist Andrew Marchand is the latest to sound off on NBC's Notre Dame football TV booth. We hear his comments and react.

* Thoughts on Ohio State fans who were in a tizzy last weekend because they had to pay for Peacock to watch the Buckeyes play Purdue.

* Fill-in the blank: It’s BLANK that former Chicago Cub Kyle Schwarber belted two more home runs for the Phillies Tuesday night to give him 18 career postseason home runs...which ties him with Reggie Jackson got for the most ever by a left-handed batter.
