Irish Breakdown

Irish Breakdown starts today's show with comments from Marcus Freeman's Thursday media call. He updates several injured players and comments on if freshman receiver Braylon James could play more this week if Jayden Thomas and Deion Colzie are both out. We also know who'll be ESPN College Game Day's guest picker on Saturday. And a whiteboard breakdown of some of Saturday's matchups against Duke.

The last part of the Notre Dame Midweek Rundown looks at four Irish players (2 offense, 2 defense) and two coaches (Gerad Parker, Al Golden) that must step up this week if the team is going to handle business against Duke. We also had a quick mailbag at the end of this section.

If Notre Dame is going to keep the Duke offense in check the run defense will have to thrive. It has been a strength of the defense so far this season, but Duke QB Riley Leonard is a much different weapon than what the Irish have faced so far. That is part two of today's Notre Dame Midweek Rundown.

Notre Dame's pass game numbers look really good, but against the best team they've played it wasn't good enough. Now the Irish must get that part of the offense back on track against a Duke defense that has been outstanding defending the pass so far this season. That is a big part of the first section of our Notre Dame Midweek Rundown show.

Irish Breakdown starts today's show with the news that Lou Holtz apologized to Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman for giving Ryan Day and Ohio State motivation with his comments before last week's game. We also have some final thoughts on the game, including Freeman's learning curve in year two as a head coach, his thoughts on his team's lack of pass rush as well as his decision not to try to score at the end of the first half with two timeouts at his disposal. We also share some good things the Irish did in the game.
