*Thoughts on Texas and Oklahoma's first SEC football slates in 2024.

Rapid Fire starts by debating which has the better chance to happen this season: Audric Estime rushes for at least 1,200 yards or one of Notre Dame’s wide receivers tops 900 yards?

Other topics include:

* Thoughts on Irish safeties coach Chris O'Leary in the wake of safety Paul Menke Jr committing to Duke.

*Did former Irish quarterback Phil Jurkovec transfer first to Boston College and then to Pittsburgh just to play against Notre Dame?

* Chicago Bears defensive lineman Justin Jones had some choice words on Green Bay Packers fans this week. We share and discuss them.

* Film maker Kevin Smith of Clerks and Jay and Silent Bob fame says there are some classic movies that need a current reboot. One of them is the Bad News Bears. Smith would envisions Kelly Leak (Jackie Earl Haley) and Amanda Wurlitzer (Tatum O'Neal) who are grown ups coaching against each other in the Little League world. Would you watch that? We also have other suggestions for similar reboots.

*A crazy ex-girlfriend story.

Notre Dame had an outstanding 2023 recruiting class, the first of Marcus Freeman's tenure. What happens next will ultimately determine his future. That means Notre Dame must finish off the 2024 class on a strong note and position itself for an even better year in 2025.

The Notre Dame defense should be good in 2023, but if it's going to be a championship caliber defense it needs several veterans facing now or never seasons to step up. It begins up front with Rylie Mills and Jordan Botelho, but they aren't alone.

Notre Dame veterans Chris Tyree, Deion Colzie and Andrew Kristofic enter a now or never season. If they hit the Irish offense has a chance to be special, and they will be driving forces.
