SUMMER OF THE BIBLE
Number 14 15 16
Chapter 14
The Israelites were petrified about what God wanted of them. They thought that attacking such a strong army was equivalent to death. They grumbled and blamed God for having brought them all the way to such a terrible site. They were in great despair wishing they could be allowed to rather return to Egypt than fall on the sword of Amalekites.
Lesson
Don't go back to what made you sick. Numbers 14:1-4: “Then the whole community began weeping aloud, and they cried all night. ...
Don't be afraid of man. ...
Our sins will affect our kin. ...
The Lord is both merciful and vengeful. ...
We will be crushed by our enemies without God's direction in our lives.
Chapter 15
If someone sinned by ignorance, they were commanded to offer a sin offering. The officiating priest would make an atonement for him and he will be forgiven of his sin. However, if someone sinned presumptuously, such person had to bear his own iniquity because he despised the Word of the Lord.
Lesson
teaches that there is a difference between those who willfully sin and defy God and those who sin ignorantly or unintentionally. There are also transgressors who sin ignorantly or who make mistakes and who feel guilty about offending God.
Chapter 16
Moses intercedes for the people, begging God not to kill everyone for one man. So God tells the people to clear away from the rebellers. The Lord God made a difference that day and had the earth swallow Korah, Dathan, Abiram, and their families.
God followed that by sending a fire to consume the 250 men who were with them that came near and offered incense. The drama doesn’t end there, the next morning the congregation came out and murmured against Moses saying he killed the people of God.
Lesson
Don't let your desire for what someone else has, make you discontented with what you already have. Don't try to raise your own self-esteem by attacking someone else's and attempting to put them down. Don't use part of God's Word to support what you want and twist it to fit the facts as you see them.
