  • Olakunle’s Summary of Exodus 32-34
    Bible Summary
Exodus Chapter 32: This chapter tells us how Moses went up the mountain to collect the ten commandments and before he came down the Israelites told Aaron to make a golden calf for them to worship as their god because Moses is not forthcoming and Aaron did, God saw this and got angry and instructed Moses. When Moses saw this he was angry and smash the tablet on the floor and Moses instructed the Levi what to do and 3,000 were killed. God later punished them even after Moses pleaded on behalf of them
Lesson learnt: God is a jealous God, so don’t worship any other god aside the Almighty God.
Exodus Chapter 33: The Lord comes to a final decision here in chapter 33, that He will send an angel to go with the children of Israel into the lands of the Canaanites, God made sure Moses told the Israelites God is ready and willing to destroy all of the children of Israel in a moment because of their sin. Moses also took the tabernacle and set it outside the camp, far from the people and officially named it the Tabernacle of the Congregation. Who ever wanted to seek God had to go outside of the camp to the tabernacle of the congregation to do so.
Moses asks to actually see God, because he only heard a voice coming from the cloud behind the veil all the time he communed with God. God told Moses that He will show him His presence and goodness to pass before him. Moses was not allowed to see God’s face, in fact, no man could see God’s face and live! God gave Moses his instructions of how the situation will go; Moses will get to see the back portion of body of God, but not God’s face.
    Lesson learnt: God hate sin
Exodus Chapter 34: This chapter tells us how Moses broke the first set of stone tablets, the ones written with the finger of God. He broke the tablets because Israel broke the covenant with God. After their great sin with the golden idol Moses interceded for the Israelites, The Israelites repented. Moses again acted as a mediator between God and the people. The people couldn’t deal with God directly because of their own sin and rebellion, so Moses bridged the gap between the people and God.
    Lesson learnt God hate sin

  • Elonda’s Summary of Exodus 28-29
    Summary Exodus 28-29
    Chp 28
Just a few facts about the tabernacle which was discussed in previous chapters

The tabernacle was a sacred tent which the Israelites carried from place to place on their journey to the land which God had promised them.  It was also symbolic of the Garden of Eden.

Aaron and his sons are called to serve as priests. One of the roles of the priest were to care and maintain the tabernacle.  Being that the tabernacle is a sacred place, they  were instructed to have sacred garments made which were very detailed.  It was indicated that as they wore the garments, it would give them dignity and honor.  Certain men were chosen to make these garments – men that were skilled at their craft.  The garments were to include a breast piece, an ephod, a robe, woven tunic, a turban and a sash.  They were detailed in color-- gold and blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen.
With regard to the robe, they were instructed to put gold bells around the hem of the robe and Aaron was to wear the robe whenever he ministered.  The sound of the bell would be heard when he entered the Holy Place before the Lord and when he came out, so that he would not die. Aaron and his sons were anointed and ordained. It was indicated that this would be a lasting ordinance for Aaron and his descendants.

    Lessons/highlights
The Lord was very specific and detailed as to how the garment was to be made, what type of fabric and color to be used.  He left no details out, but very specific.  That is the way He is with His children.  When He gives instructions, it is very direct and specific, leaving no room for our own interpretation of what we think He meant.  It is up to us then to be obedient and follow His instructions.

Chp 29 Consecration of the Priests
Aaron and his sons are taken to the front of the tent of meeting, washed with water and dressed in the designated garments.  They are then anointed with oil and ordained as priests. Various sacrificial offerings take place and it concludes with the Lord saying that He would dwell among the sons of Israel and be their God.  They shall know (from personal experience) and acknowledge that He is the Lord their God.

    Lessons/highlights

Just as the Lord dwelled with the sons of Israel, it is His desire to dwell within us, that we would known Him through personal experience and that we would acknowledge Him as the Lord our God.

    SUMMARY OF THE BIBLE
    Exodus 19 20 21.
    Chapter 19
On the third new moon after the Israelites' departure from Egypt, they enter the wilderness of Sinai. They camp in front of the mountain there. The LORD calls to Moses from the mountain. Moses must tell the Israelites that because the LORD delivered them from the Egyptians, they must obey God and keep his covenant.
    Lesson
God revealing himself to us through the history of his relationship with Israel preserved for us in a collection of ancient Hebrew texts
    Chapter 20
The Lord reveals the Ten Commandments Israel is to bear witness that the Lord has spoken from heaven—The children of Israel are forbidden to make gods of silver or gold They are to make altars of unhewn stones and sacrifice to the Lord.
    Lesson
The first commandment reminds us that everything in the Torah flows from the love we have for God, which in turn is a response to the love he has for us. This love was demonstrated by God's deliverance of Israel “out of the house of slavery” in Egypt
    Chapter 21
God gives Moses further commands to give the people. If someone purchases a male Hebrew slave, that slave must be set free in their seventh year of service. The exception is if a slave freely decides to stay, out of love for his master, in which case the master should pierce the slave’s ear as a sign of this bond before God.
    Lesson
If we violate the laws of God, then He requires us to make restitution. They also learned that making and keeping covenants with the Lord helps us qualify to receive the blessings of the Atonement of Jesus Christ
