  • Ifeoluwa’s summary of Exodus 4-7
    Exodus 4
God has chosen moses to be the one to deliver the Israelites from bondage in Egypt .
Meanwhile Moses was having doubts and he told God that people might not believe him when he goes to them with the message of God.
God did two miracles to convince moses of His ability and also as prove to the Israelites.
Moses was still having excuses , he later complained to God of his speech impairment. God said “Who has made man’s mouth? Who makes him mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, the Lord?
Finally Aaron was prepared as the spokesperson for moses.
Moses went Back to his father in-law ( Jethro) . He then embarked on his journey back to Egypt
In the meantime ,God spoke to moses again , he commanded him to follow all his instructions. He said he has hardened pharaoh's heart .
    Lessons I learnt
1: God knows our abilities before giving us any mission . Our own is to depend on him .
2: God is patient and kind. He took his time with moses even when he was explaining his weakness to God. God was able to prepare Aaron to help him on his mission .
    3:
    Exodus 5
Moses and Aaron arrived at Pharaoh's palace . They delivered the message of God. However Pharaoh asked them “Who is the Lord, that I should obey his voice and let Israel go? I do not know the Lord, and moreover, I will not let Israel go.”
Moreover Moses and Aaron persisted in their quest to convince Pharaoh of God's word. But the whole thing got Pharaoh enraged and he asked that taskmasters to no longer give straw to the Israelites as they used to do. And that the Israelites got more issue on their plate.
Now with more task to do the Israelites blamed Moses for pouring salt on their wounds .
Moses so heartbroken went back to God. He expressed his displeasure about the situation. “O Lord, why have you done evil to this people? Why did you ever send me?
He could not see the sense in his mission .
    Lessons learnt
1: Sometimes we need to be fortified with faith and patience to see the miracle of God. Moses expected the mission to be a piece of cake but the opposite was the case.
2: Our present situations can be so heart breaking but we should not stop having faith and having a great fellowship with God.
    Exodus 6
God responded to Moses' grieving. God being the God of His word restated his stand on the deliverance of the Israelites.
He told moses he will deliver the Israelites with a mighty hand . He promised that pharaoh will drive them out with a strong hand because of what he (God ) will do to him(pharaoh).
God again sent Moses back to pharaoh to give him the messages again.
Followed is the genealogical account of Moses and Aaron. They are brothers from the tribe of Levi.
    Lessons learnt
1: God always stands by His word. He never backs down no matter how bad we feel .He re affirm his promise of deliverance to Moses .
2: No matter how confused we feel. We should always know he that has promised will bring it to fulfillment. We should freely approach God's presence and he is always ready to hear us.

And when the days of weeping for him were past, Joseph spake unto the house of Pharaoh, saying, If now I have found favor in your eyes, speak, I pray you, in the ears of Pharaoh, saying, My father made me swear, saying, Lo, I die: in my grave which I have digged for me in the land of Canaan, there shalt thou bury me. • Olakunle’s Summary of Genesis 43-44
    Bible Summary
Genesis Chapter 43: This chapter tells us how the famine became strong and Israel formerly known as Jacob told his sons to go back to Egypt to buy more food but they were afraid because of the instruction given to them by Joseph because the first time they went to Egypt to buy food, he told them that when next they are coming, they must come with the last son Benjamin. Israel was afraid to let go of Benjamin because of what the other brothers did to Joseph, but they had to persuade the father and Judah made a promise that he will bring Benjamin back before he finally allowed Benjamin to follow them.
Lesson learnt: Jacob’s faith appears to be weakened because he relied on gifts again just like he did to his brother esau. And once again God shows himself to be faithful.
Chapter 44: This chapter tells us how the son’s of Israel were on their way back to Canaan with everything they came for. They have the grain they need to avoid starvation. They have Simeon, released from prison after being held as security. And they have Benjamin, safe and well. They even have their money back again returned. They have not yet realized that it is Joseph with whom they've dealt with is the one that is testing them Joseph's test continues by having his own personal, valuable silver cup hidden in the grain sack carried by Benjamin. Under Joseph's orders, the steward catches up with the brothers on the road back to Canaan. He questions them harshly, accusing them of stealing the cup. Naturally, the brothers protest loudly. They have no idea the cup is with them. Seeking to prove their innocence, they make a foolish offer: if any of them are found with the cup, that man will be killed, and the rest will become slaves to the ruler. The steward, who put the cup in Benjamin’s sack, makes a show of searching all the others before finding it there and they return to the city along with Benjamin and the steward Joseph insist that the men can go free but Benjamin must stay behind as a slave. Fortunately for them all, Judah speaks on behalf of the family and pleaded for Joseph to take him as a slave that if they leave Benjamin behind the father might die.
Lesson learnt: We can out grow from sin because Judah that was the master minder was the one begging and making peace he even sacrifices to be in Benjamin’s position
Chapter 45: This is a chapter filled with revelations. It begins with Joseph revealing his identity to his brothers. It ends with those brothers revealing that their father's beloved son Joseph is not dead; he is living as a ruler in Egypt. The brothers were surprise. To convince them, Joseph tells them he is the one they sold into slavery all those years ago. In this situation, they naturally would have expected to suffer Joseph’s vengeance. Instead, Joseph rushes to assure them that God was ultimately in control of sending him to Egypt as a teenager. What they did with evil motives, God allowed for the good of their family and the world. Joseph had clearly spent many years processing his many struggles. He had reached the remarkable conclusion that God’s intent was to make him a ruler in Egypt to save them all from famine. Joseph sent his brothers back with gifts to bring his father to Egypt because he wanted to see him.
Lesson learnt: God’s purpose must be fulfilled in our lives and sometimes he uses our enemies to accomplish the mission just like what Joseph brother’s did

  • Yolanda’s Summary of Genesis 40-41
Genesis 41 Pharaoh had 2 dreams. The first dream was 7 healthy cows and 7 ugly cows. The second dream was of 7 healthy grains and 7 withered grains. Pharaoh sent for his magician of Egypt and his wiseman. They couldn’t interpret the dream. Joseph was able to interpret the dreams to Pharaoh. The dreams were the same. God was telling Pharaoh what he was going to do in Egypt. This was a warning that there will be 7 years of plenty and 7 years of famine. Pharaoh saw how God blessed Joseph with wisdom. Pharaoh made Joseph his ruler of all of Egypt. Joseph was also in charged of storing the food until the famine hit. The famine was severe that the people had to come see Joseph for food .
Joseph was so blessed that God made him king of nations.
    Genesis 42
Jacob sent his son to Egypt to get grain so that they could survive the famine. All the sons went except Benjamin. Joseph recognized his brothers when they arrived food. Joseph gave them a hard time and said one of you must go get your youngest brother and bring him back here to Egypt. The rest of the brothers stay in jail for 3 days. On the 3rd day Joseph tell his brothers to leave 1 brother behind and the others can go get food to take back to there families. They agreed. The brothers started feeling bad for what they had done to Joseph. Reuben didn’t like what there brothers had done. Simeon was left behind. Jacob told his servant to give the food and to put the money back into there sacks. When the brothers had made it home they told the father Jacob all that had happened. How the money was returned to them and how they thought they were spies. They also told how one of the brothers had to stay back and bring the youngest brother Benjamin to Egypt. Jacob became upset with his sons. Reuben says to his father you may kill my sons if I don’t bring Benjamin back to you. Jacob refused the offer.
What was meant for evil against Joseph, God meant it for good.
Abraham descendants were highly favored in the sight of God. Joseph listened to God.

  • Elonda’s Summary of Genesis 38-40
    Day 12
    Summary Gen 38-40
Judah is one of Jacob’s 12 sons.  He marries a Canaanite and have three sons—Er, Onan and Shelah Judah gets a wife for his first born Er and her name is Tamar.  Because Er was wicked in the eyes of the Lord, he put him to death. Because of his wickedness, Onan was also put to death. Tamar had borne no children and was promised that when the youngest son Shelah was old enough, he would be given to her, but that never happens.  Eventually Judah’s wife dies also. Tamar discovers that her father-in-law, Judah is going to a certain town to shear his sheep.  She digues herself as a prostitute and stands at the entrance of the town. When Judah approaches, he asks to sleep with her, not knowing that it was his daughter-in-law, Tamar.  Her response was, what will you give me in return?  She was givenp some of his personal items for collateral – his seal, his cord and his staff.  Later she discovered she was pregnant. When Judah sent one of his aides to retrieve his items. The prostitute was nowhere to be found. Judah got word that Tamar was pregnant.  He suggested that she be burned to death. She sent a message to Judah that she was pregnant by a man that certain items belonged to and he recognized the items as his own.  Judah said that she was more righteous than he was since he did not give his son Shelah as promised.  She gave birth to twin boys.

    Lessons
    ·      God demise wickedness to the point of death as the case with Er and Onan
    ·      Although Tamar was constantly deceived, she was still blessed with not one, but two sons.

    Chp 39

After being sold into slavery by his brothers, Joseph ends up in Egypt living in the household of Potiphar, who was one of Pharaoh’s officials, the captain of the guard. Pharaoh is the king of Egypt.
Potiphar began to take notice that God was with Joseph, that whatever he did, he prospered and had great success. Joseph began to have favor with him and he became his personal assistant and was eventually put in charge of his entire household and everything that Potiphar owned was entrusted to him. Once Joseph was put in charge, the Lord blessed everything that Potiphar owned, including his household and his fields. The only thing Potiphar was concern with was the food he ate.

Being that Joseph was handsome and well built, Potiphar’s wife began to take notice of him as well. She solicited him to sleep with her but he refused.  For he reminded her that his master had entrusted all of his affairs into his care and he could not betray him like that but most of all he could not “sin” against God.  Being persistent, it didn’t stop there.  Day after day, she continued to persuade Joseph to sleep with her.  Seeing that she was not going to get her way, she decides to plot a scheme against Joseph, stating that while alone in the house, he entered and tried to sleep with her and left his cloak as evidence.  Potiphar was informed, became enraged and put Joseph in prison.  However, while in prison, the Lord was with him, and he found favor with the warden.  The warden favored Joseph to the point, he put him in charge of all of those held in prison and made him responsible for all that was done there. Because the Lord was with Joseph, he had success once again in whatever he did.
     Lessons
    ·      To be encouraged that although a situation may look like it is working against, when we bring it to God, it will always be used for our good as in the case with Joseph.
    ·      Know that when the favor of God is on your life, others around you will take notice.  They may not be able to identify what it is but they know it is something different.  This opens the door for Christians to share their relationship with God to the world around them.
    ·      Joseph was able to resist temptation – Potiphar’s wife- not only because of his faithfulness to his master but more so because of his relationship with God.  He stated that he could not sin against God.

    Genesis 35
God told Jacob to go to Bethel . Then he instructed Jacob to build an altar for him.
Jacob asked his household to set surrendered all their foreign gods and they did that with their ear rings .
God miraculously gave Jacob and his people a secure passage on their journey.
At padan Aram God appeared to Jacob again . Here he changed his name from Jacob to Israel.
After leaving Bethel , a series of events happened. Rachel, Jacob's beloved wife died immediately after childbirth.
Followed was the record of Jacob's twelve sons.
At the end of the chapter ,Isaac died after living for 180 years . He was buried by his sons Esau and Jacob.
    The lessons from the chapter
It is only when we surrender all of our heart to God that we will experience his great encounter.
Living a consecrated life is the pathway to divine touch of God in our lives.
    Genesis 36
The chapter started with the records of Esau's family . His wives are Canaanites .He had a large livestocks like his brother Jacob.
He moved and settled in the hill country of
    Seir.
He is the father of the Edomites .
Ever before there were kings in Israel . Esau's children had began having chiefs and kings. Eleven chiefs descended from him.
    Lessons learned.
I learned from the chapter that God wanted to have a relationship with us . Not walking in the will of God doesn't mean we will not prosper in our ways but we will not enjoy the presence and the leading of God.
    Genesis 37
The chapter began with Joseph"s story .
Jacob lives in the land of Canaan .
Jacob loved Joseph more than the other children of his because he has him in his old age. Then he made him a robe of many colours.
Knowing that he was more beloved , joseph's brothers hated him.
Joseph had two different dreams where his family bowed down to him. Firstly he dreamt of his brothers' shieves bowing to his.
Also the sun ,noon and eleven stars bows to him
Then on this day. Jacob sent his son Joseph to check on his brothers at the field in Shechem . The mission was to know how they are faring with the flocks and return with the news.
Meanwhile when Joseph found his brothers at Dothan. While he was approaching they saw and planned to kill him.
Reuben the eldest was against the plan so he advised that they throw him into a pit. This was a plan to rescue his brother from the rest of them.
Later Joseph was sold to some ismaelite traders.
Reuben was sad when he didn't see Joseph in the pit afterwards.
Then they took joseph's clothe , soaked it in blood . They went home and lied to their father that Joseph was killed by a wild animal.
Their father was so heartbroken and he wept for Joseph his beloved son.
    Lessons to learn
1: As a parent it is not good to show favouritism . Loving every child equally allows love and peace in the home.

  • Raphael’s Summary of        Genesis 29 30 31.
    Chapter 29.
Talks about Jacob how he end up with his mother’s bother Laban.
Laban has two daughters Rachel and Leah. Laban was pleased to give Rachel to Jacob than any other man so Jacob decided to serve Laban for 7 years because he loved Rachel ,  after seven years completed  Jacob discovered he serve for the wrong woman which is Leah. Laban told Jacob to serve seven years for Rachel , because the Lord saw Rachel was love and Leah was despise so God shut the womb of Rachel and open the womb of Leah.
                                                                                   Lesson.
One of the lesson I learnt is never to  be among the deceiver people in a wrong way to make their will be accomplished
Chapter 30                                                   When Rachel saw that she had not given birth to any child for her husband Jacob she brought her maid Bilhah to her husband  Then she said, “Here is my servant Bilhah; go in to her, so that she may give birth on my behalf, that even I may have children through her.” And Bilhah conceived and bore Jacob a son. Then Rachel said, “God has judged me, and has also heard my voice and given me a son.” Therefore she called his name Dan. Then Leah said, “God has endowed me with a good endowment; now my husband will honor me, because I have borne him six sons.” So she called his name Zebulun.   and Jacob tell Laban after giving birth to Joseph let me go so that I can prepare for my home.
    Lesson.
One of the lessons I learned. Love everything you have including your children your wifes equal and show love to them equally because Jacob failed to do that God shut the womb of Rachel
    Chapter 31
Jacob leaves Laban because the Lord told him so. Thus God has taken away the livestock of your father and given them to me. When it was told Laban on the third day that Jacob had fled, he took his kinsmen with him and pursued him for seven days and followed close after him into the hill country of Gilead. But God came to Laban the Aramean in a dream by night and said to him, “Be careful not to say anything to Jacob, either good or bad.” And Laban overtook Jacob. Now Jacob had pitched his tent in the hill country, and Laban with his kinsmen pitched tents in the hill country of Gilead. And Laban said to Jacob, “What have you done, that you have tricked me and driven away my daughters like captives of the sword? Why did you flee secretly and trick me, and did not tell me, so that I might have sent you away with mirth and songs, with tambourine and lyre? And why did you not permit me to kiss my sons and my daughters farewell? Now you have done foolishly. It is in my power to do you harm. But the God of your father spoke to me last night, saying, ‘Be careful not to say anything to Jacob, either good or bad
