The latest CPI data out of the U.S. data showed that inflation for January came in 0.5 percent higher than last month. On an annual basis, inflation rose to 6.4 percent, slightly higher than the 6.2 percent widely expected by economists. U.S. treasury yields are climbing on the news, with the rate-sensitive two-year Treasury yield approaching the highest level since November. Today we ask if the idea of a soft-landing is still on the table? And where should you consider adding exposure in this environment? Fixed income portfolio manager Jeff Moore sits down with host Bryan Borzykowski today to unpack these questions and more, including providing his insights on fixed income investing for the short and long term, and to share where he is adding and reducing exposure in his funds. For Canadian investors, Jeff manages several fixed-income funds including Fidelity Multi-Sector Bond Fund, as well as ETFs, and mandates for institutional clients. Jeff and team believes peak inflation happened in the second half of 2022, and he also notes if there is a hard landing treasuries will do better than corporates, which is something the team is keeping an eye on for their portfolios. Among other topics, Jeff reflects on bigger global market trends, and trends in the institutional pension fund industry in the U.S.
