Mindfulness teaches you the skill of paying attention to the present by noticing when your mind wanders off. Its a place where we can rest and settle our minds.

Therapy is so much more than sitting on a couch.

Misconceptions abound about what it means to talk to a mental health professional. The need to talk about your emotions is seen as something to poke fun at, weak or shameful. That stigma is often why people don’t seek help in the first place.

But here’s the reality: Therapy is an incredibly useful tool that helps with a range of issues, from anxiety to sleep to relationships to trauma. Research shows that it’s incredibly effective in helping people manage mental health conditions and experts say that it’s worth it even if you don’t have a medical problem.

And, in today's episode, we will be talking about therapy. Our guest is Yashita Khera. Yashita is a Mental Health Advocate and the Founder at Speak, Listen, Heal Support Groups.

Mental health can be an ignored part of being healthy. But it is one of the most important parts. It drives much of our day-to-day life. Having a bad mental health day can impact a lot, including making it harder to get things done. It can be as simple as not running an errand. Or it can be more impactful, like not showing up for work.

The lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (LGBTQ) community face these challenges just like everyone else. But they may experience even more hurdles to caring for their mental health. This is usually related to prejudices that exist today. LGBTQ individuals are more likely to experience a mental illness such as depression or anxiety. And the stigma that surrounds mental illnesses can keep people from seeking help.

The guest of third episode of It's all in the Mind is Divya Dureja. Divya is a Counseling Psychologist, Mental Health and Sexuality Educator.

Art – no matter whether you choose to create it yourself or simply observe and enjoy it – is a relaxing and inspiring activity for many people. Art therapy can be defined in many ways, but the simplest way to define it is an application of the visual arts in a therapeutic context. You don’t necessarily have to see a therapist in order to experience some of the therapeutic benefits of artistic expression. There are many simple activities you can try from the comfort of your home such as art journaling, sketching, making collages, sculpting with clay, etc. It doesn’t matter what media you choose. The only thing that matters is that you feel comfortable using it.

And, our today's guest Aditi Kaul has told us the importance of Art Therapy in coping with mental health. Aditi is an Expressive Arts Based Therapist and is a Program Lead of Expressive Art Therapy Program at Department of Mental health and Behavioral Sciences, Fortis Healthcare.
