A question with few answers. I piece together some ideas and topics for further discussion while speaking candidly about the process of creating a podcast about the process of creating a podcast, and art about art. Welcome to episode 8 of IT'S ALL IN THE MINDSET. www.iaitmpod.com
An episode about my first love: Graphic Design. Firstly I discuss the current Covid-19 Pandemic sweeping the globe and give some updates on the podcast. I then discuss the hustle of carving out your own lane as a freelancer, what got me started on my own journey through design, what I've learnt along the way from Plymouth College of Art and Design (PCAD), to diving into the industry, finding work, building a client base and navigating the world of freestyle design. I get into typography, kerning, other technical parts of graphic design and give a nod to a fellow designer's book: Adrian Shaughnessy's - How To Be A Graphic Designer Without Losing Your Soul.
Changing the way in which you look at the world inside and out can be one of the most profound shifts in consciousness you'll experience. By examining old thought patterns and making a deliberate effort to playfully evolve these habits is not only a fundamental part of creativity but is also a truly rewarding experience for whatever life you choose to live. I make connections between skateboarding and a shifted world view, talk about training yourself to get out of old mental grooves and look towards a new way of thinking using a zoom in/out tool that can dramatically boost you in a direction you may have been wanting to go but have felt stuck. We all go through it.... maybe this can help...

Mac Miller would have turned 28 years old today (January 19th 2020), in tribute I’ve recorded a raw take on what his music meant to me, how I first became aware of his art and I break down a few of his most meaningful lyrics. It was the Macadelic mixtape, released in 2012, that first caught my attention and since then watching the growth he went through as an artist has been deeply inspiring. His death on September 7th 2018 affected many people around the world, I share my experience of being a fan of his work for so many years and then getting the news of his passing that day, which I’m sure a lot of you will be able to relate to. With the release of his new album Circles (1/17/2020) from @92tilinfinity there’s a revitalized energy to his work and life. With that being said, Happy Birthday Mac! I talk with music producer Gabe Lackner a.k.a. BOZGO and artist/actor Megan Ozurovich (pixiepropaganda) about the creative process and it’s many hurdles including loneliness, self-sabotage, childhood trauma, addiction and more. We discuss what creativity means to us, the commonality between all artistic expression, fame and art, Kanye West, Jean Michel Basquiat, Pablo Picasso, money and art, publicity, self-promotion, social media, the tortured artist vs the happy artist, treasuring the moment, therapy and sanskara, Steven Pressfield’s The War of Art and what Resistance is in our lives, living in a simulation, the Northridge Earthquake of 1994, surfing, tidal waves and we laugh about the endings of various disaster films. It’s a great chat which was recorded at the start of December 2019 in Los Angeles and I’ve been excited to share it ever since so here it finally is, tune-in and I hope you enjoy! Who am I? What's all this about? Listen to me mumble through the first episode of IT'S ALL IN THE MINDSET! Here I get used to recording my own voice and summarize what the podcast is going to be about. I also tell stories of what led me towards becoming an artist, including dislocating my knee at 15 years old, starting a t-shirt brand, traveling Europe and meeting my wife in a Paris hostel in 2013 before immigrating to the USA. www.leerobsonspence.com
