Author Luke McQuillan has joined us on ITBR! We had an enticing conversation spanning from 1930's queer history to our modern-day administration and how easy it can be to fall into the rabbit hole on writing queer suffering and anxieties when the choice to write on joy is right there.

Luke opened up on how American politics eroded his mental health which led him to write his debut musical novel Love in the Light. Set in 1939, the musical novel follows ship navigator Alfred Hearn and lighthouse keeper James Spencer. You guessed it, sparks are gonna fly between these two!

What a special summer treat since Stan Zimmerman, writer of "The Brady Bunch" movies, "Golden Girls," "Gilmore Girls," and "Roseanne" (just to name a few) joins me on the podcast!

Stan offers his writing philosophy, which he learned on "The Golden Girls" that humor must be character-driven not just "jokey jokes." In his opinion, this is why the sitcoms that he worked on created such timeless relatable comedy. When Stan has the opportunity to teach the younger generation, he always discusses how a career in Hollywood requires a "show hat" for creative work and a "business hat" for resilience! Remember, at the end of the day it is called show business.

Stan reveals so many behind the scenes stories of how "The Brady Bunch" movies came to be, including his decision to have RuPaul read for the part of Mrs. Cummings. He also answers why Carol Brady is always pouring so much sugar into her coffee, and the origin of the "Sure, Jan" scene which has now taken on its own Gen Z afterlife on TikTok!
