Today, I will talk about the topic that a typhoon is coming.
ãããªãã§ãã
That's right.
倧ããå°é¢šãæ¥æ¬ã«æ¥ãŠãŸãã
A big typhoon is coming to Japan.
å€åæ²çžã«ã¯ããæ¥ãŸãããã
It probably already came to Okinawa, didn't it?
ãããå°é¢šã¯æ¥ãŸãã£ãŠããåè©ãšäœ¿ããŸãã
Yes. We use typhoon with the verb "kimasu" (to come).
ã ããå°é¢šãæ¥ãŠãŸãã§ããã
So it is "taifu ga kitemasu" (a typhoon is coming), isn't it?
ããããããªãã§ãã
Yes, that's right.
ãã®å°é¢šã¯ãšãŠã倧ããã¿ããã§ããã
This typhoon seems to be very big, doesn't it?
ãªãã颚ã匷ããŠãéšãããããéã£ãŠãšãŠãå±ãªãã¿ããã§ãã
It seems to be very dangerous with somewhat strong winds and a lot of rain falling.
ãŒãããã¥ãŒã¹ã§èŠãŠãŸããã
I was also watching it on the news.
å°é¢šãæ¥ãŸããã£ãŠãã¥ãŒã¹ã®äººãèšã£ãŠãããã§ããã
The news person was saying that a typhoon is coming, you know.
ããã§ãæ¥æ¬ã®äººã¯å°é¢šã«æ £ããŠãŸãã
Yes, but Japanese people are used to typhoons.
ã ãã倧äžå€«ã ãšæããã§ããã
So I think it will be okay, you know.
ããã§ããã®å°é¢šã¯æ¬åœã«åŒ·ãã¿ããã§ã¡ãã£ãšå¿é ãªãã§ãã
Yes, but this typhoon seems to be really strong, so I am a little worried.
ãããææ¥ã®ææ±äº¬ã®è¿ãã«æ¥ãã¿ãããªãã§ããã
Moreover, it seems it will come near Tokyo tomorrow morning, you know.
ã ãããŸãä»äºã«è¡ã人ã¯æ¬åœã«å€§å€ã ãšæããŸãã
So, well, I think it will be really tough for people who go to work.
ãŒãã¯æè¿ãã¡ã§ä»äºããŠããã倧äžå€«ãªãã§ããã©ã
I am okay because I have been working at home recently, though.

ã ãããå€åå°é¢šãæ¥ãæãšåšãã»ããããã«é£ããŠè¡ããšãã¯åãã ãšæããã§ããã
So, I think the time when the typhoon comes and the time when I take my daughter to nursery school will probably be the same, you know.
åããããã®æéã ãšæããŸãã
I think it will be about the same time.
ã ããããã©ãããããä»èããŠããŸãã
So, yes, I am thinking about what to do now.
å°é¢šãéããã倧äžå€«ã ãšæããŸãã
I think it will be okay once the typhoon passes.
å°é¢šãéããŸãã
The typhoon passes.
ã¡ãã£ãšãããããèšèã§ããã
It is a slightly difficult word, isn't it?
å°é¢šãæ¥ãŠå°é¢šãéãå Žæã«è¡ãããšãå°é¢šãéããã£ãŠèšããã§ããã
A typhoon coming and then going to a different place is what we call "taifu ga sugiru", you know.
å°é¢šãéããã倧äžå€«ã ãšæããã§ããã
I think it will be okay once the typhoon passes, you know.
ããã
Yes.
å°é¢šã®åŸã¯ãã€ãæŽããŸãããã
It always clears up after a typhoon, doesn't it?
ãããã§ãæå°é¢šãæ¥ãã®ã¯ã¡ãã£ãšãã倧å€ã§ããã
Yes. But a typhoon coming in the morning is a bit, yes, tough, isn't it?
ã¡ãã£ãšèŸãã§ããã
It's a bit rough, isn't it?
ã¿ããªä»äºã«è¡ãããã
Because everyone goes to work, you know.
ããã ããå€å°é¢šãæ¥ãã®ã¯å€§äžå€«ãªãã ãã©ãããæŒæ¥ãã®ã¯ãã£ã±ãå°ãå¿é ã§ãããã
Yes, so it's okay if a typhoon comes at night, but, yes, it's still a little worrying if it comes during the day, isn't it?
ã§ããåäŸã®æã¯å°é¢šãæ¥ããšã¡ãã£ãšãã®ã¯ã¯ã¯ã¯ããŠãŸããã
But when I was a child, I used to be a little, well, excited when a typhoon came.
ã©ãããŠãã£ãŠãããšã倧ããå°é¢šãæ¥ããšæã åŠæ ¡ãäŒã¿ã«ãªããã§ããã
The reason why is because when a big typhoon comes, school is sometimes canceled, you know.
ããåŠæ ¡ã仿¥ã¯å°é¢šãå±ãªãããäŒã¿ã§ãã£ãŠèšããã§ããã
That's right, the school says that because the typhoon is dangerous today, school is closed, you know.
ã ãããŒããã¡åäŸã¯ã©ãããŒã¿ãããªæãã§ããã
So for us children, it felt like "Lucky!".
ããã ããææ¥ã¯åŠæ ¡ã¯äŒã¿ãããããŸããã
That's right, so school might be closed tomorrow.
ã§ãã»ããããã¯äŒã¿ããªäŒã¿ãããªãããªããã¡ãã£ãšããããŸãããã
But I wonder if the nursery school will be closed or not closed, yes, I don't really know.
ããããŸããææ¥ã¯å°é¢šãæ¥ãŠå±ãªããšæããŸãã
Yes. Well, I think it will be dangerous with the typhoon coming tomorrow.
ã ãããã¡ã§ã®ãã³ãããããšæããŸãã
So I want to relax at home.

Today, I'm going to talk about the topic, "Japanese counting is difficult."
æ¥æ¬ ã® æ°ãæ¹ ã£ãŠ æ¬åœã« é£ãã ã§ã ããã
Japanese counting is really difficult, isn't it?
è±èª 㯠ãŸã 1 2 3 1ã ããŒã¹ãªãŒ ã¿ãã㪠æã 㧠æ°ããŸã ãã
In English, well, you count like 1, 2, 3, one, two, three.
æ¥æ¬ 㯠æ°å 1 2 3 4 5 㧠ãããŸãã
In Japan, we have the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
ã§ã ã ã® ã æ°ãã ãšã 㯠ç¹å¥ãª æ°ãæ¹ ã ãã ã ã§ã ãã
But when you count objects, there are special ways of counting, aren't there?
ããã
Yeah.
äŸã㰠人 ã æ°ãã ãšã 㯠1人 2人ã 3人 ã£ãŠ æ°ããŸãã
For example, when you count people, you count them as hitori, futari, sannin.
1 2 3 ã 倧äžå€« ã§ãã
One, two, three is also fine.
ã§ã 1人 2人ã 3人 ã ãã 䜿ã ãŸãã
But we often use hitori, futari, sannin.
ä» ã« ã¯ çŽ ã æ°ãã ãšãã çŽ ã¯ 1æ 2æã 3æ ã 䜿ã ãŸãã
Other times, when counting paper, we use ichimai, nimai, sanmai for paper.
æ ã 䜿ã£ãŠ æ°ããŸãã
We count using "mai".
é£ãã ã§ã ããã
It's difficult, isn't it?
ãã£ã 㯠1人 2人 ã ãã©ã
Just now it was hitori, futari, though.
çŽ ã æ°ãã ãšã 㯠1æ 2æ ã 䜿ã ã ã§ã ãã
When you count paper, you use ichimai, nimai, don't you?
ããã ã¯ã€ãº ã§ãã
Now, here is a quiz.
æ¬ ã æ°ãã ãšã 㯠ã©ããã£ãŠ æ°ããŸã ãã ããããŸã ã ïŒ
Do you know how to count when you count books?
æ¬ ã æ°ãã ãšã ã¯ã 1å 2å 3å 㧠æ°ããŸãã
When counting books, we count them as issatsu, nisatsu, sansatsu.
é£ãã ã§ã ããã
It's difficult, isn't it?
æ¬ ã¯ å ã 䜿ã ãŸãã
We use "satsu" for books.
ä» ã« ã¯ äŸã㰠飲ã¿ç© ã æ°ãã ãšã 㯠ã©ããã£ãŠ æ°ããŸã ã ããããŸã ã
Other times, for example, do you know how to count when you count drinks?
飲ã¿ç© 㯠äžæ¯ 2æ¯ 3æ¯ ã£ãŠ æ°ãã ã ã§ã ãã
We count drinks as ippai, nihai, sanhai, don't we?
ãã ã¡ãã£ã¯ã㣠é£ãã ã§ã ããã
This is super difficult, isn't it?
1 ã® ãšã 㯠1æ¯ 2 ã® ãšã 㯠2æ¯ 3 ã® ãšã 㯠3å ã 䜿ã ãŸãã
When it's 1, we use ippai; when it's 2, nihai; and when it's 3, sanhai.
ã ãã ã ãšã ã° ã 䜿ã ã ã§ã ãã
So we use "pa" or "ba", don't we?
ãã ãã 㯠æ¬åœã« é£ãã ãš æããŸãã
Yeah, I think this is really difficult.
ã§ã é¢çœã ããš ã ãããŸãã
But there are also interesting things.
ãã£ã 人 ã æ°ãã ãšã 㯠1人 2人ã 3人 ã§ã ããã
Just now, when counting people, it was hitori, futari, sannin, right?
ã§ã ã¬ã¹ãã©ã³ 㮠人 ãšã ãåº ã® äºº ã 人 ã æ°ãã ãšã ã¯ã 1åã 2åã 3å ã£ãŠ æ°ãã ã ã§ãã
But when restaurant workers or shop staff count people, they count them as ichimei, nimei, sanmei.
人 ã æ°ãã ãã©ã 1人 ãšã 1å éã ã ã§ã ãã
Even though they are counting people, hitori and ichimei are different, aren't they?
ãã 㯠ãåº ã® äºº ã äžå¯§ãª èšè 㧠æ°ãã ãšã 㯠1å 2å 3å ã 䜿ã ã ã§ãã
This is because shop staff use ichimei, nimei, sanmei when counting in polite language.
ã ãã æ°ãæ¹ ã éã ã® ã¯ã æ¥æ¬ ã® æå ãšã æ¥æ¬ ã® æŽå² ã ãã ã ã§ã ãã
So, the reason why the ways of counting are different is that there is Japanese culture or Japanese history behind it, isn't there?
ãã㊠äœã㧠ãã å Žæ ã«ãã£ãŠ æ°ãæ¹ ã éã ããš ã ãããŸãã
And depending on the place you live, the way of counting can also be different sometimes.
ã ãã å匷 ãããš é¢çœã ãš æããŸãã
So, I think it's interesting when you study it.

Japanese curry is probably different from Indian curry, isn't it?

They are similar, but I think there are many differences.

That news is about how the Switch 2 will become more expensive.

But the Switch 2 is, well, new.
ããã ãã é«ã㊠ãããš æããã§ããã©ã
So, I think it's okay for it to be expensive.
60,000åãããã£ãŠããã®ã¯ ãã å°ã é«ããš æããŸãã

ã§ããã¹ã€ãã 2ã ããããªããŠãè²ã 㪠ãã®ã å€äžã ããŠãŸãããã
However, it's not just the Switch 2; various things are increasing in price.

ã ãã ãã㯠ãŸã ãããããªããš æããã§ããã
So, I think this is probably unavoidable.
ããã
Yeah.

Of course, adults play it too, and I want a Switch 2 as well, but yeah, it's popular with kids.
ã ãã åã©ãã® ãã®ã£ãŠ å®ã æ¹ã ããã§ãããã

è²ã 㪠ãã®ã å€äžã ããŠããã ãããããªãããªã£ãŠ æããŸããã
But since everything is going up in price, I guess it can't be helped.

But I think there are still many cheap things in Japan.

Especially restaurants are cheap.
ã©ãŒã¡ã³ å±ããã é«ã ãªã£ããã©ããŸã å®ããš æããŸãã
Ramen shops have become more expensive too, but I think they are still cheap.
ã ã£ãŠ ã¢ã¡ãªã«ãšã ãšãŒããããšã ãã£ãš é«ãã§ãããã
Because in places like America or Europe, it's much more expensive.
ããã ãã æ¥æ¬ã¯ å®ã㊠ã¯ãªãªãã£ã ãã ãã®ã ããã£ãŠ æããŸããã
So, I think Japan has things that are cheap and of good quality.
