In this episode, I am joined by legendary arts & entertainment writer Doug Hill who has written for the Norman Transcript the last 25 years. I met Doug at The Rt. 66 Bowl on 39th in Oklahoma City, 20ish years ago. We were both there to interview a band from Hoboken New Jersey called "Mad Happy". They were on tour, supporting their record "Feel Good Music for The Broke Middle Class" & are a group, Doug & I are still friends with Today! We discuss Doug's beginings as an entertainment writer, bands we love as well as all things Norman, Oklahoma.

In the Fall of 1993, I was a Freshman at Ardmore High School. Other than WalMart, there was only one place you could buy music at the time in town & that was an incredible store for of Music, Magazines, Computer Games & Software, Movies to rent or buy, all the incense & black light posters you could possibly want & it was called Hastings. Out of nowhere, there is a flyer put up on the door of Hastings, Rock band The Nixons will be doing an acoustic in store performance, signing autographs & selling their new record. This was not only my first rock concert, albeit an acoustic one, but it was also my first Record Store, In Store... Needless to say, I was hooked. I have been fortunate enough to interview Zac numerous times. He is always so appreciative & genuine and I am always excited to hear what he's been up to professionally & musically. We all know his work with The Nixons, but he also put out several solo releases as well, that are now available on streaming platforms. He's also a very accomplished songwriter, penning compositions for Shinedown, Ayron Jones, Blake Shelton, Tim McGraw, Jake Owen, Carrie Underwood, Plush, Black Veil Brides, In Flames, Saliva, Bowling For Soup & many more. Zac will be performing live in OKC on January 25th, 2024 at Beam Live, inside 50 Penn Place with Adam Aguilar opening the show.

While in Tulsa at the Cains Ballroom on 12/23/23, I spoke with all 3 Oklahoma bands on the show that night... Cliffdiver, Ben Quad, & this band, When The Clock Strikes. Over the years, hosting the KATT Local Talent Show, I discovered their music & became a fan. They were the opening band that night, playing first of the 4 bands on the show & they did not disappoint. Cliffdiver formed in 2018. They are from Tulsa, Oklahoma & have released 1 Full Length LP "Exercise Your Demons" on SideOneDummy in 2022. 2 - EP's before that as well as a cover of X-Ray Spex 1977 classic, "Oh Bondage, Up Yours" featuring Stephen Egerton. Cliffdiver have toured with Bowling For Soup & Less Than Jake as well as a stop at Riot Fest 2022 in Chicago. This episode was recorded at the Cains Ballroom on the last night of their tour with Action / Adventure that also features fellow Oklahoma Artists - When The Clock Strikes & Ben Quad. In this Episode, I am joined by the OKC band "Rolling Eyes"...

I host The KATT Local Talent Show, every Sunday Night at 9pm central time on Oklahoma City's Rock Station since 1976, Rock 100.5 The KATT, where i play all Oklahoma music for 2 hours. Oklahoma in general, has a very vibrant music scene, with talent of all genres, from border to border. I got an email from an OKC band called "Rolling Eyes" & they sent me a track called "Void". It instantly reminded me of what was coming out in the mid to late 90's, very reminiscent of the shoegaze sound but its own modern vibe. So i looked into the band more, they didn't have a website but they did have an instagram page & that one song available on Spotify. I played the song on the LTS one Sunday night. Fast Forward to a few weeks later & i'm taking my son Wyatt to guitar lessons, & out walks Logan, whom i hadn't met & says, hey thanks for playing my band! I was kind of shocked b/c i didn't know him so i had to ask what band he was in, & he tells me. Then i find out my sons guitar teacher is also in Rolling Eyes & they were both super excited I played it. It was just a random email from strangers, sent to another stranger, hoping it might get played. This is why i genuinely enjoy hosting the Local Talent Show. When i see the excitement from a band hearing their song for the first time, being played to a mass audience on the radio. It makes me happy being able to do that for so many artists. I told Riley & Logan i wanted to have them on the podcast sometime. So when they sent me their new song "Cosmic Relief", i asked them to come on the podcast & the Local Talent Show to talk about it. This is Oklahoma Music. We discuss other local bands they like, what inspires their sound, recording at ACM @ UCO & their new music as well....

Squid Games The Challenge is currently the #1, most watched show on Netflix. One of the contestants, Number 422 on the show, is Oklahoma City's own, Riley Hahn from the band Soul Crisis. As well as fronting groups like Soul Crisis or being a part of the Deep Donkey Crew, Riley has been a part of OKC's nightlife as a bartender in Bricktown clubs & currently Kong's in Midtown. Soul Crisis released their debut EP in 2012 & have shared stages with Disturbed, Killswitch Engage, Static X, Dope, Lacuna Coil, Spineshank, Hed PE, Five Finger Death Punch & more... Riley discusses how difficult it was going through the casting process to be on Squid Games The Challenge as well as the psychological struggles that took place during the show. This was the largest prize in TV show history at over $4.5 Million Dollars! Listen to this episode & find out how far Riley made it.
