It’s finally here! The day we’ve been waiting for ever since this podcast launched – the premiere of Jean-Claude Van Johnson! We’re taking a little break from our regular chronological film order to talk about this hilarious six episode series from Amazon. Please be forewarned, if you haven’t watched the series yet, there will be spoilers! But let’s be honest, who hasn’t already watched it?

Van Damme loves doing cameos and we love him for doing them. This episode is dedicated to all of the cameos that we haven’t already discussed (that pop up on his IMDB page). We’re talking about famous movies to not-so-famous ones. He also has a small role in a film called Alien Uprising that we included. Which, you can view the trailer for it here:

What do you do when you want people to see your movie but there’s no guarantee that they will? You put Van Damme on the poster! Yes, that’s right, we’re taking on Dragon Eyes! A movie starring Cung Le, everything promotional about this film makes you think that it’s going to be as epic of a team up as Double Team. That’s not the case. Van Damme takes on the role of a teacher. And just like Mr. Miyagi taught Daniel, Van Damme is teaching Cung how to survive.

Finally back on the big screen! Van Damme plays the bad guy in this ultimate action film from 2012. There’s so much to say about this movie that we’re just going to let you download the episode and listen rather than read this description any further.

Oops! This one was supposed to come out before Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning. It happens. At least we get more Van Damme, right? This 2012 film is all about Jean-Claude Van Damme teaming up with Scott Adkins to take out a mob boss. Well, there’s more to it than that but you get the gist. Enjoy!

This episode was hard to do. We were so excited to watch this film. And then we watched it. If there is anything we have learned from the Universal Soldier Franchise, it’s that you should watch these films separately and pretend they are all in different universes because it just doesn’t make any sense. This is up there with Derailed. We’ll just leave it at that.

We get to witness the first time Van Damme has ever done a voice over for an animated film! Was it worth it? Plus, Van Damme appears in another French film that we know nothing about! So instead of making them two separate episodes, we decided to combine them together. Lastly, listen in for some bonus content on the end of this episode for Soldiers because John forgot to make himself a note to add this audio into last week’s episode.

Okay, so we messed up. We thought it weird that a Van Damme movie on IMDB was rated so high that we had never heard about it. That’s because the movie isn’t out yet. You see, when we went to watch the film, we realized there was no film. Only trailers for the film. Will we ever get to see this Van Damme funded gem? The rumors have been circulating that it’s supposed to come out at the end of this year but we won’t hold our breath. Either way, we talked about it and why it has all of this information surrounding it yet we can’t find the film itself.

Welcome back to JPVD as we welcome back a wonderful film franchise! Universal Soldier will always hold a special place in our hearts, even if the sequels end up not being canon to the original. If you expect this one to follow Universal Soldier: The Return, you are mistaken. Just enjoy it for what it is – we did.
