The weather in Japan is gradually getting warmer and warmer.

As the weather gets warmer, we feel that spring is approaching, and the image of cherry blossoms is widely spread in Japan.

There are many types of cherry trees, and each type blooms at a different time, so the cherry blossom season in Japan as a whole lasts four to five months.

Among these many types of cherry trees, the central type of cherry tree in Japan is the Someiyoshino.

Although someiyoshino bloom for only a few days before falling, the cherry blossom season is long throughout the Japanese archipelago: February in Okinawa, mid-March in Kumamoto, late March in Kansai and Tokyo, April in the Tohoku region further north, and later in Hokkaido.

日本の気候もだんだん暖かい日が増えてきました。

暖かくなってくると、春が近づいているのを感じますが、日本の春といえばさくらというイメージが広く行き渡っています。

桜の種類はたくさんあり、その種類によって咲く時期が違うので日本全体では桜のシーズンが4～５ヶ月続きます。

その多くの桜の中で日本の中心的な桜はソメイヨシノという種類です。

ソメイヨシノは開花してから散るまでに数日しか咲いていませんが、沖縄では2月、熊本では3月なかば、関西から東京では3月下旬、そしてさらに北の東北では、4月、北海道ではその後というように日本列島全体では、長く桜のシーズンが続くのです。

Around 11PM last Wednesday, an intensity 6 earthquake hit the Tohoku area of Japan, with its epicenter on Fukushima's coast. Strong shaking was also felt in Tokyo, causing blackouts in the area. Many are reminded of the Great East Japan earthquake 11 years ago. May everyone continue to be safe.

Today we will learn about the geography of Japan.

Japan is made up of four large islands.

From north to south, they are Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu.

Since Honshu is a large island, it is sometimes further divided into five parts: Hokkaido, Tohoku, Kanto, Chubu, Kansai, Chugoku, Shikoku, and Kyushu regions.

Each region is further divided into 47 administrative units called prefectures.

The Kanto region is the most populous region of Japan, centered on Tokyo.

West of Tokyo in the Kanto region is Kanagawa Prefecture.

Kanagawa is home to Japan's second most populous city, Yokohama, and famous tourist destinations such as Hakone and Kamakura.

To the east of Tokyo is Chiba Prefecture, home to Narita Airport and Tokyo Disneyland. Tokyo Disneyland is not located in Tokyo.

To the north of Tokyo lies Saitama Prefecture. Chichibu is rich in nature with river rafting, Kawagoe is called "Little Edo" with its retro townscape, and the Saitama Super Arena is located in Saitama.

Tochigi Prefecture has many hot springs, and Nikko, with its beautiful autumn foliage, is also a popular tourist spot for foreigners.

The other two prefectures in the Kanto region are Gunma and Ibaraki. Gunma is famous for its Kusatsu Onsen hot springs, and Ibaraki is　

Ibaraki is home to Kairakuen, one of the three most famous gardens in Japan. Kairakuen is also famous for its beautiful plum blossoms, which are at their best now.

日本は大きな4つの島からできています。

それらは北から順に、北海道、本州、四国、九州と言われます。

また、本州は大きな島なのでさらに本州を5つに分けて、北海道、東北、関東、中部、関西、中国、四国、九州地方と分けることもあります。

さらにそれぞれの地方は、47の都道府県という行政単位に分かれています。

関東地方は、東京を中心に日本の最も人口が多い地域です。

関東には、東京の西側が神奈川県です。

神奈川には日本で二番目に人口の多い横浜があり、有名な観光地として、箱根や鎌倉があります。

東京の東側は千葉県があり、成田空港、そして東京ディズニーランドがあります。東京ディズニーランドは東京にあるのではないのです。

東京の北には埼玉県があります。川下りなどの自然が豊かな秩父やレトロな街並みが残り小江戸と言われる川越、そしてスポートさいたまスーパーアリーナ

栃木県には温泉が多いのですが、紅葉が美しい日光も外国人に人気の観光スポットです。

関東のあと二つは群馬県と茨城県です。群馬は草津温泉が有名で、茨城は　

茨城には、日本三名園の一つ偕楽園があります。偕楽園は今が見ごろの美しい梅の花でも有名です。

This year's Hinamatsuri is over, but did you see or hear anything about it?

Well, today, I would like to introduce foods eaten on Hinamatsuri.

The following foods are eaten on Hinamatsuri, and each ingredient has a meaning as to why it is included.

Chirashi-zushi

The following ingredients are used in chirashi-zushi, and each has its own meaning.

Shrimp: to live long until your waist bends. The red color repels evil spirits.

Renkon (lotus root): The hole in the root is supposed to give you a good outlook for the future.

Beans　まめ: To work hard　まめにはたらく and live a strong and healthy life　まめにくらす.

egg thread to make brocade 錦糸たまご: to accumulate treasures.

Carrots: for roots to grow.

Denbu: Denbu is used because of its seasonal resemblance to the color of peach blossoms.

Inarizushi (sushi wrapped in fried tofu)

Hina Hare (Japanese sweet pancake filled with bean jam)

And the famous Hyakudan Hinamatsuri, an exhibition held at the Hyakudan Staircase, a tangible cultural property designated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and located in the Meguro Gajoen hotel in Tokyo, to introduce visitors to Japanese culture, was not held this year due to Corona.

今年の雛祭りは終わりましたが、何か雛祭りを見たり聞いたりしましたか？

ひなまつりには次のようなものを食べますが、それぞれ具材にはなんでそれを入れるのか意味があるのです。

ちらし寿司の具材は次のようなものが使われ、それぞれに意味があります。

海老：腰が曲がるまで長生きできるように。赤い色が魔よけとなります。

れんこん：穴が開いているので、将来の見通しがきくようにとされています。

豆：まめに働き、まめに丈夫で元気に暮らせるように。

錦糸玉子：財宝が貯まるように。

にんじん：根をはるように。

田附：季節感のある桃の花の色に似ていることから田附が用いられます。

そして東京のホテル、目黒雅叙園のある東京都指定有形文化財「百段階段」で日本文化に触れるための企画展として行われる百段雛祭りは有名ですが、コロナの影響で今年は開催されませんでした。
