Jenna Russell: Championing The Stage

For nearly 40 years, Jenna Russell has been tackling hard-hitting roles on stage and on screen that speak to audiences today. Moreover, she has established herself as a prime interpreter of the works of Stephen Sondheim, taking on roles in 'Into the Woods', 'Merrily We Roll Along' and winning an Olivier Award for playing Dot/Marie in 'Sunday in the Park with George'.  Alongside her impressive repertoire of Sondheim works, Jenna has also played leading roles in 'Fun Home', 'The Bridges of Madison County' and most recently played the eponymous character in 'Piaf'.  On screen, her work also extends through to 'Doctor Who' and 'Eastenders', always playing compelling women with interesting stories to tell. As well as this, she is also a doting mum and partner to fellow actor Raymond Coulthard. Today, Jenna remains one of the most acclaimed and revered actresses on the West End and on Broadway and it seems she has no plans on pausing her career any time soon.

As Jenna Russell continues plans for her upcoming solo concert at Cadogan Hall, she took some time to talk to us about what she hopes to bring for her first solo show. Despite living away from London, she tells us about how much she still loves going to watch theatre shows and remains committed to being a theatre actress. In this interview, we also reflect on the past year and how restrictions have impacted the industry that she values so dearly. We look back at her most recent work and we see Jenna reminisce about working with some of her most respected peers in the industry including fellow actress Sally Ann Triplet as well as multi-award winning director Trevor Nunn, and of course beloved composer Stephen Sondheim. It's an endearing conversation and we hope after listening, it makes you love Jenna Russell even more than we already do.
