This week Jacki and Marissa are joined by academic powerhouse, feminist, author, and all around baddie Catlyn Ladd. The ghouls celebrate Catlyn's brand new vampire novel As Those Above Fall (see description below). They also discuss Catlyn's previous nonfiction work, Strip: The Making of a Feminist. Catlyn then helps the ghouls jump into Blood Red Sky and Abigail. They dive into the many layers and themes present in both of the films. They explore the concept of the Monstrous Feminine, root for the monster, and share their love for vampires.
Check out Catlyn's website to learn more about her work HERE!
As Those Above Fall: As Those Above Fall is about a grieving and suicidal witch who meets a vampire, transforming her desire for death into lust for power. Published by Winding Road Stories, the book will be available everywhere books are sold on Friday, September 13, 2024.

The Ghouls are jumping in feet first into the work of director, Ted Geoghegan! They watched We Are Still Here and the Shudder Original: Brooklyn 45. Monsters come in all forms in both movies and the Ghouls gush about the films and how much there is to discuss. Moral dilemmas, interesting theories, beautiful cinematography, what is the ultimate evil, and even a chat about grief and the "5 Stages of Death".

Happy birthday Jacki! This week the ghouls are joined by the always lovely, hilarious, and amazing influencer Elizabeth Sagewood as they venture to LA and visit Studio 666.
The ghouls and Liz talk Foo Fighters, book recs relating to music and horror, and the hilarity which is Studio 666. Can the Foo Fighters pull of a horror comedy (the hardest sub-genre out there)? Will this film pass the Bechdel test? Will they survive? How often will Marissa bust out into song? Will they run out of ranch dressing? So let's do a Pearl Jam High Five, say YES to Dave Grohl, and head over to Studio 666.

Jacki and Marissa cover Tremors and realize that they do, indeed, love Kevin Bacon. They also play a few quick rounds of Kevin Bacon to crown a Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon champion. Will Jacki continue to prove herself the pop culture master, or will Marissa get her act together and identify that person from that movie to squeak out an underdog victory?

Summer is starting to sizzle here in New Jersey, and the ghouls are celebrating by listing their favorite Horror Books. Since they've given Stephen King is due, they made the rule that there could be no Stephen King on the list (they've already made that list).
Marissa spirals, stans the younglings of Booktok and had to dig deep into the past to craft her "eras" tour of horror, while Jacki proves she is the real guru as she dive into her impressive Goodreads list to find the best horror she has read in recent years.
So grab a cold one, slap on your sunscreen (or tanning oil for the real Jersey Girls out there), and join the ghouls as they ride the summer waves of reading and relaxing.
