Worship is not just a song. It is a lifestyle. It is the response of your heart to the worthiness of God. The discipline of worship means intentionally setting aside time tofocus on God, to praise Him, and to adore Him. It is not about feelings. It is about faithfulness. When you discipline yourself to worship even when you do not feel like it, you grow.
My dear friend, there will be days when you do not feel like worshiping. You are tired, discouraged, or distracted. But worship is not about feelings. It is about truth. God is worthy of your worship regardless of how you feel. When you discipline yourself to worship in those dry times, you break through spiritual barriers.
Think about Paul and Silas in prison. They were beaten and chained. They had every reason to complain. But they worshiped. Acts 16 verse 25 says, "At midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God." Their discipline of worship in a difficult moment brought breakthrough.
Think about David. He worshiped despite his circumstances. He wrote Psalm 34 and said, "I will bless the Lord at all times. His praise shall continually be in my mouth." At all times. In good times and bad.
Think about Job. After losing everything, he fell to the ground and worshiped. He said, "Blessed be the name of the Lord." Job worshiped in his deepest pain.
So how do you develop the discipline of worship? First, schedule time for worship. Put it in your calendar. Make it a priority.
Second, use music. Worship music helps you focus. Put on songs that exalt God and sing along.
Third, worship with your words. Speak words of praise. Tell God how great He is. Declare His attributes.
Fourth, worship with your body. Lift your hands. Bow down. Dance. Your body can express what your heart feels.
Fifth, worship in spirit and truth. Engage your spirit. Let the Holy Spirit lead you. Worship based on truth, not feelings.
What this produces in your life is a deeper connection with God. Worship breaks through distraction and brings you into God's presence. The discipline of worship keeps you connected to the source of life.
Let us pray. Father, I want to worship You in spirit and truth. Help me to develop the discipline of worship. I will praise You at all times. When I do not feel like it, I choose to worship. You are worthy. Help me to worship with my words, my body, and my spirit. Let worship be my lifestyle. In Jesus mighty name, amen.
