There is a principle in Scripture that is both sobering and encouraging. You will reap what you sow. Galatians 6 verses 7 through 9 say, "Do not be deceived, God is not mocked. For whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart." The principle of sowing and reaping is built into the fabric of creation. Every seed produces after its kind. What you sow determines what you will harvest. My dear friend, this principle applies to every area of your life. If you sow to the flesh by living according to your sinful nature, you will reap corruption and destruction. But if you sow to the Spirit by living according to God's Word, you will reap eternal life and blessing. You cannot expect to reap a harvest of blessing if you are sowing seeds of sin. And you can be confident that if you are sowing seeds of righteousness, you will eventually reap a harvest of blessing.Think about the story of the rich fool in Luke 12. He had abundant crops. He built bigger barns to store his wealth. He said to his soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years. Take your ease, eat, drink, and be merry." He was sowing to his flesh. He was living for himself. But God said to him, "Fool! This night your soul will be required of you." He reaped what he sowed. He stored up treasure for himself but was not rich toward God.Think about the widow of Zarephath. In 1 Kings 17, she sowed a seed of faith. She had only a handful of flour and a little oil. But she gave her last meal to Elijah the prophet. She sowed sacrificially. And God multiplied her seed. Her flour and oil did not run out for the entire duration of the famine. She reaped a supernatural harvest because she sowed in faith.Think about the Macedonian churches in 2 Corinthians 8. They sowed generously out of their deep poverty. They gave beyond their ability. And the result of their sowing was not just material blessing. They experienced joy, liberality, and the grace of God. Paul said that God loves a cheerful giver and that God is able to make all grace abound toward you so that you may always have all sufficiency in all things. So how do you apply the principle of sowing and reaping to your life? First, identify what you are sowing. Examine your life. Are you sowing seeds of the flesh or seeds of the Spirit? What kind of harvest are your current seeds likely to produce? Be honest with yourself.Second, sow good seeds intentionally. Sow seeds of generosity, kindness, prayer, Scripture, service, and love. Every good deed is a seed. Every word of encouragement is a seed. Every prayer is a seed. You are sowing constantly. Be intentional about what you plant.Third, be patient. There is always a time gap between sowing and reaping. The farmer plants seeds and waits for the harvest. Do not get impatient. Do not give up. Your harvest is coming.Fourth, do not grow weary in doing good. It can be discouraging when you have been sowing for a long time and have not yet seen the harvest. But Galatians 6 verse 9 promises that if you do not give up, you will reap in due season. Keep sowing. Keep believing. Keep trusting.Fifth, sow even when you are in a difficult season. The principle works in every season. When you are in need, sow what you have. The widow sowed her last meal. The Macedonians gave out of their poverty. Sowing in a difficult season produces the greatest harvest. What this produces in your life is a harvest of blessing that matches the seeds you have sown. You will reap what you sow. If you sow generosity, you will reap generosity. If you sow love, you will reap love. If you sow prayer, you will reap answers. If you sow the Word, you will reap faith. The harvest is coming. Keep sowing.Let us pray. Father, I want to sow good seeds in every area of my life. Help me to sow to the Spirit, not to the flesh. Help me to sow seeds of generosity, kindness, prayer, and love. Give me patience to wait for the harvest. Do not let me grow weary in doing good. I trust that in due season, I will reap if I do not give up. I want my life to produce a harvest that glorifies You. Help me to sow wisely and faithfully. In Jesus mighty name, amen. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
