All kids love new things…the latest technology, the newest gaming system, the trendiest styles. As a father, you could spend a lot of time and energy giving your kids these things…but that would only address their superficial desires. We’re a ‘right now’ kind of people. Our culture has conditioned us for immediate gratification…but that kind of life just indulges our selfish natures. When you want to grow something, whether it’s a plant, a pet or a baby…you have to plan ahead. Things aren’t just going to happen without some work and preparation. As Pastor Daniel explains today, our spiritual lives need the same kind of care. We have to put in some effort…to get into the presence of GOd, to read His Word…those things fertilize the ground that GOd will water and nourish. Take time to plan ahead and get your heart ready.

Obedience is not as hard as we make it out to be. As Pastor Daniel explains today, we know what God wants from us…He clearly lays it out for us in the Word. If we don’t overthink it or let our own will get in the way…we can move forward with the Lord. Even in your obedience we won’t be perfect people, but your heart reveals your desire to follow Jesus. When you’re installing a light fixture in your home, you don’t place it in a far corner, or behind a piece of furniture. You want it to produce the most light possible. As Pastor Daniel teaches today, God wants our lives to give off light with the utmost intensity. But that means we can’t just sit off in a corner…we have to allow Him to move us and use us as He will. Listen and learn how to trust the Lord to move you so you’re the brightest light.

If you consider your life yours, you’re stealing from God. Living our lives our own way requires cutting God out of the picture. When things get messy, we can lose sight of the Lord as we scramble to fix things ourselves. Today, Pastor Daniel encourages us to gift God with our lives. When you give gifts, you probably try to consider what a person might like, and then buy it. But, what if they required an extensive list of gifts, ones that were difficult to get or assemble? Would you love them enough to do it, or go easy on yourself and get something quickly? As Pastor Daniel reads from this portion of Numbers, we’ll hear a detailed list of the gifts that the people brought to the Lord, a difficult task performed out of love.

God has designed things for people in a specific way, for a specific time. We can try to plan out our lives in a way that we think will benefit us the most…where to go to school, who to marry, when to have kids. But, what if things don’t go our way? Today, Pastor Daniel will encourage us to let God influence our plans, just as we’ll hear the children of Israel following God’s lead in a very specific way. It was all done for God’s glory.

Say you are a believer in love with an unbeliever. You want to be obedient to God, and you know what He says about being unequally yoked. Your heart starts to feel like God is being unfair, that He just takes away and makes things hard. As we’ll hear today, the opposite is actually true. Pastor Daniel will ask us to recognize that God’s desire is to radiate His face and personhood upon us. Every day. His desire is to bless and sustain us.

As human beings, our hearts are complicated things. When a person becomes a believer, that doesn’t change. Today, Pastor Daniel teaches about consecration, and being set apart for God. It’s an important designation, but we can easily become caught up in thinking that makes us better, or more righteous. We’ll be set right today, as we remember that even in our humility and obedience, we always need Jesus. That doesn’t go away after salvation.
