On this episode, we chat about the latest findings in Muhsin's research into the effects of exercise on the human brain.
We discuss the link that has been found between dopamine production and testosterone and why this is a critical thing to understand for Jiu-Jitsu athletes - especially men.
In this episode, we discuss some examples of whether or not western medicine should be used to solve a problem or whether a more natural alternative might be available.

On the 66th episode of this podcast, I had the privilege of sitting down with Mark Olvera, a guy who swapped late-night partying for early-morning training sessions. Mark, the heart and soul of the Olvera Jiu-Jitsu Academy, has quite a tale to tell - it's a story of transformation, redemption, and the power of saying: "Do not quit."
Mark is no stranger to the dark side. He dove headfirst into the chaotic world of drugs and partying, but it was Jiu-Jitsu that threw him a lifeline. He got hooked, not to the substances that were dragging him down, but to the martial art that was pulling him up. His life took a U-turn. Sobriety replaced addiction, purpose replaced aimlessness, and before he knew it, Jiu-Jitsu had permeated every corner of his existence. In his own words, he'd go "crazy without it."
Jiu-Jitsu has clearly done more for Mark than only assisting him in achieving sobriety; it has completely transformed his career, his relationships, and indeed his entire outlook on life. However, Mark's zeal doesn't end with self-transformation. Jiu-Jitsu, in his opinion, has the ability to make the world a better place. This martial art, according to him, isn't just about the throws and holds - it's a mindset. Mark thinks that the "No Quit" attitude that Jiu-Jitsu instills in its practitioners can be used anyplace in life.
The conversation gets particularly interesting when we delve into the Olvera Jiu-Jitsu Academy. This place isn't just Mark's entrepreneurial project; it's his life's passion and purpose personified. His objective? To build an arena where people pick up more than just martial art moves. Mark envisions the academy as a transformative space, not just a dojo for landing punches or perfecting grapples. It's a space where discipline, self-respect, and personal growth are on the daily menu. The academy, in essence, embodies the very principles that marked a new beginning in Mark's life.
This episode is more than a simple chat about Jiu-Jitsu; it's a revelation of its immense capacity to flip life's script. We're not just touching on the sport; we're unpacking its essence and the profound shift it can trigger. Mark's story is incredibly unique and inspiring - a journey from self-destruction to self-mastery. So, plug in and let yourself be swept away by Mark Olvera's gripping transformation, which might just spur you to seek your own 'No Quit' mindset.

On this 64th episode of the podcast, I sit down with Pedro Marinho, a world-renowned Jiu-Jitsu black belt champion who wears humility as effortlessly as his belt. But prepare to be surprised – this isn't your everyday chat with an athlete.
We dive into Pedro's eclectic life journey, one that whirls from the football fields to the intensity of martial arts. Yet, for Pedro, it was the discipline of Jiu-Jitsu that became a life compass, shaping his character, instilling self-confidence, and nurturing humility.
The world of sports often highlights trash talk, with personalities like Gordon Ryan and Conor McGregor center stage. Pedro offers a fresh perspective, advocating authenticity over artificial bravado. As he puts it, 'just be yourself' - a simple but powerful mantra that has served him well.
Pedro opens up about the emotional rollercoaster of competitions – the backstage jitters, the thrill of victory, the lessons from defeat. It's a refreshingly candid glimpse into the mind of a top athlete, dispelling the myths of an always confident, unshakeable persona. Pedro shares his struggles, his journey from feeling lost to finding purpose, and ultimately growing calmer through Jiu-Jitsu.
Social media – the double-edged sword for any public figure. Pedro shares his approach to dealing with both praise and criticism in this digital age, emphasizing the importance of mental strength for professional athletes. His advice? Stay grounded, stay focused, and don't let the noise distract you.
Our conversation takes a spiritual turn as Pedro talks about his deep-rooted faith in God. Recounting his transformation from working construction in Brazil to becoming a world champion in America, he attributes his success to divine guidance. His mission? To honor and showcase God's work in his life.
Excitingly, Pedro is now branching out to share his passion with others. He's on the cusp of opening a school, a dream he's thrilled about. It's an opportunity to give back and inspire others through Jiu-Jitsu.
In a world obsessed with highlights and headlines, Pedro Marinho stands out as a beacon of authenticity and humility.
