He has taught in the United States at Dartmouth College, the University of Chicago, and George Mason University and Gettysburg College, and later at several universities in Europe, inclding American Institute of Business and Economics in Moscow, Central European University in Budapest, the University of Economics in Prague, and the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga. His second book, Designing Ideas, is about Yves Behar. Episode 164 (26 Nov 2021): Paul Vriend graduated from LUC in 2018, majoring in Earth Energy and Sustainability. He went on to do an internship at the Ocean Cleanup and a master degree in Environmental Science at Wageningen University. For the past three years Paul has been studying macroplastic pollution in rivers, which has landed him a job at the Dutch government where he is currently part of a team that is exploring the possibilities for a national monitoring strategy for riverine macroplastic pollution.

He currently works as a water resources manager for a small private water company in the southern Central Valley and is deeply interested in water management institution's movement toward more efficient/sustainable practices. He is interested in pursuing a graduate degree in economics to focus his understanding of water markets and potentially allow him to influence more aspects of the industry. He is seeking advice and guidance from economists to help define what his next steps will be related to a graduate degree in economics.

Episode 162 (18 Nov 2021): Cynthia Koehler is an environmental attorney and water policy expert with 30 years of experience working on federal and state water and natural resource issues. She is the co-founder and executive director of WaterNow Alliance, a nonprofit network of local water leaders advancing sustainable, equitable and climate resilient water management strategies nationwide, with a particular focus on innovative infrastructure finance and policy. She has served for the last 16 years as an elected Board Director for Marin Water, a public water provider serving a population of 200,000 people and responsible for managing 21,000 acres of watershed lands. She is an appointed member of the US EPA’s Environmental Financial Advisory Board (EFAB) Council, and served previously on US EPA’s Local Government Advisory Committee, and Governor Brown’s Urban Advisory Group. She worked previously as the Legislative Director for California water issues for the Environmental Defense Fund, and is the recipient of The Bay Institute’s Hero of the Bay Award, as well as other commendations for her environmental leadership.

Episode 161 (22 Oct 2021): Angela van der Berg (https://www.linkedin.com/in/angela-van-der-berg-62b7b391/) is the Acting Director of the newly established Global Environmental Law Centre at the University of the Western Cape's Faculty of Law in South Africa. She is also a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Public Law and Jurisprudence where she runs and teaches in the LLM (masters) in Environmental Law. Angela's interdisciplinary scholarship focuses on future-orientated environmental law and governance research aimed at advancing sustainability under conditions of unprecedented environmental change. Much of this research is geared towards developing reflexive and responsive legal frameworks and governance structures fit for addressing complex social, economic and environmental challenges resulting from Anthropogenic climate change.
