Episode 158 (5 Oct 2021): Kathryn Roscoe is a senior researcher at Deltares, working on adaptive flood risk and resilience planning, and developing tools and approaches to support decision-makers. She grew up in Miami and followed her love of Steinbeck to the central valley of California to study Physics at CS Chico and Hydrology at UC Davis before selling all her stuff and moving to the Netherlands. She got her PhD in Hydraulic Engineering from the Delft University of Technology, where she worked on algorithms behind the Dutch probabilistic flood defense assessments. At Deltares she focuses on flood resilience planning under uncertain future conditions. As the U.S. and Canada coordinator, she connects Deltares to researchers and government agencies that want to collaborate on topics such as operational water management, coastal modeling, and climate adaptation and resilience.

At AUB, Rami directs the Food Security Program and coordinates the Rural Community Development Program. Besides these topics, his work focuses on sustainable diets and nutrition, sustainable food systems, and the political ecology of food security and agriculture in the Arab world. He obtained his BSc and MSc from the American University of Beirut and his DPhil from Oxford University.

He holds a PhD in Agricultural Engineering (Univ. Córdoba) and a Masters in Agricultural Economics (Univ. Manchester). He has consulted for the European Commission, Spanish Government and other public administrations and private stakeholders. He combines hand-on experience in environmental and agribusiness sector with academic and scientific perspectives.

Episode 155 (15 Sep 2021): Achim Häger is a forest ecologist. He received his doctorate in forestry from the University of Goettingen. Achim is from Germany but lived 15 years in Costa Rica, where he taught undergraduate and graduate programs at the Organization for Tropical Studies, School for Field Studies, and the University of Costa Rica. Achim worked briefly as a consultant for the FAO in Mozambique before joining LUC in 2020. Achim's research is about the relationships between biological diversity and ecosystem services in forests and agroforestry systems. He is now researching similar relationships in dune ecosystems.

Episode 153 (10 Sep 2021): Lieke Schreel (https://www.linkedin.com/in/liekeschreel) is a medievalist turned educational scientist. She is a pioneer who likes to build new organisations with a huge passion for education. After five years teaching Dutch and Medieval Dutch Literature at Trinity College Dublin, she joined University College Utrecht in 2000. At this first Liberal Arts & Sciences college in the Netherlands, she combined tasks in teaching, administration and student support. In 2009 she helped set up Leiden University College, with responsibility for development of the curriculum and accreditation. As her interest in the governance and administration of universities grew, Lieke left LUC in 2021 for the University of Twente, where, as the Director of the Center of Educational Support, she is responsible for student and course administration, student support and scholarships, educational support and language courses.

Episode 151 (7 Sep 2021): Lois Henry has been a journalist in the San Joaquin Valley for more than 30 years working at the Fresno Bee and The Bakersfield Californian. Over the years, she covered the aerospace and oil industries as well as city, county and state government. She left newspapering in 2017 and started an online publication called SJV Water that focuses exclusively on water in the SAn Joaquin Valley. She is married and lives in Bakersfield with four dogs and two cats.
