The latest release from M. Night Shyamalan finds a young girl and her parents taken hostage, whilst vacationing in a cabin, by four armed strangers - who demand that the family make an unthinkable choice to avert the apocalypse. With some excellent performances from leads Jonathan Groff, Ben Aldridge and Dave Bautista (special mention as well to young star Kirsten Cui), this anxiety inducing story does have bright sparks, however, I couldn’t help but feel a tad underwhelmed overall.

The X Files is one of, if not my all-time favourite show. It’s very near and dear to my heart - and in this episode, I thought I’d revisit the feature length film that dropped in 1998- which I think is bloody ace. Managing to balance between pleasing the die-hard fans and the average audience member, the film has a tonne of great moments which only elaborates on the already established government conspiracy within the show. Its wonderful to see Mulder and Scully part of a big ‘blockbuster’ that I think is one of the best TV to Film adaptations.

It is being said that no other tv show will have a better episode this year than the latest episode of ‘The Last Of Us’ – and I wholeheartedly agree. Titled ‘Long, Long Time’, this is easily one of the best pieces of television I have seen. From the impeccable script, to the outstanding performances from Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett, the episode packs so much heart and emotion that it has instantly gone into my top list. As our lead characters dive further into the desolate city, we finally get a full look at the terrifying clickers - and good lord, was most of this episode intense! From the fantastic cold opening, to the tragedy that unfolds for Joel, Ellie and Tess, this episode kept me at the edge of my seat. Some outstanding set design as well as terrific performances that once again has me itching for more

'Plane' finds Gerard Butler and Mike Colter taking down some bad guys on a remote island following an emergency plane landing. With homages to 90's action flicks, as well as lots of gunfire, the film does pretty much what it was set out to do. Is it the best film you’ll ever see? Absolutely not. Will it keep you entertained? Pretty much!

Move over Chucky, there’s a new doll in town! M3GAN brings the scares and thrills, but also an incredibly moving and emotional element – something I wasn’t expecting at all within this release! With some great performances from Allison Williams and Violet McGraw, plus the terror that any evil A.I. droid brings, M3GAN definitely sits as the surprise package for me this year so far!

Released in 2022, 'Barbarian' got A LOT of people talking – sadly, I wasn’t one of them! Having finally checked the film out, I am kicking myself that I didn’t give this a watch on its initial release. Written and directed by Zach Cregger, this is easily one of the best horror/thrillers in a long time. The intensity is all there, as well as a great structure, and performances from the cast.
