City government officials in Solana Beach have passed new laws mandating EV charging stations and solar panels. At the same time they want to ban natural gas. Is this a serious climate change policy for the city or just virtue signaling by elected leaders? The Solana Beach climate change policies have so many exceptions and carve outs that it is a wonder at all if they are going to move the climate change needle at all. We break down the Solana Beach plan. Plus, we discuss ways that cities can enact a climate change policy that actually demonstrates real leadership and makes a significant, positive difference in their city.

San Diego Parking Wars

Then we explore the City of San Diego’s new parking rules that relax parking regulations for restaurants and high density living. This plan gives restaurants the choice of Al Fresco dining permanently in lieu of parking spaces. We look at San Diego’s new parking regulations within the context of the city’s climate change plan and SANDAG’s utopian transit initiative. Join us as we explore the positive impact this same policy has had in Los Angeles where neighborhoods are more walkable, friendly, and full of energy.

Poway's Irish Pub Closing

We also discuss the recent notice that Poway’s Irish Pub will be closing. Locals in Poway are upset and there are petition drives being circulated to save the pub. Is this situation an example of the evil character of property owners? Is this dog-eat-dog capitalism or simply part of businesses reaching agreement in lease contracts? Are landlords villains by nature? We discuss this topic and the broader changes occurring on Poway Rd.

Fire Phelps and Redistricting

Plus, we get into the initiative to fire Poway Unified School District Marian Kim-Phelps and the redistricting process in the City of Poway.

Too much good stuff!

Death threats directed at Poway Unified School Board trustees. Protesters showing up at school board members’ private homes with a manifesto filled with demands. What in the heck is going on here? We break down this whole story and then explore the nationwide heated rhetoric at school board meetings, the VA gubernatorial election, and school choice.

Then we have a wonderful time discussing San Diego State Aztec punter Matt Araiza. Matt is a graduate of Rancho Bernardo high school and has become a national sensation for his incredible bionic leg breaking NCAA punting records. We discuss his backstory and his own pursuit of happiness.

We also break down the season opening wins for UCSD and SDSU basketball. I share my own joy as a UCSD graduate finally experiencing my school having success at the Division 1 level.

Then we discuss a range of San Diego news topics including housing development in Rancho Penasquitos along the I-15 freeway, the Aztec football stadium, and the record setting prices of homes in 3 zip codes in San Diego County. We also go down the rabbit hole discussing redistricting in the City of Poway and Poway Unified School District as we prepare for the 2022 election cycle.

SANDAG has a plan to tax you per mile to help pay for their $160B public transportation plan. Why this big push for a utopian mass transit system when so few people use the existing trolleys and carpool/bus systems? We break down SANDAG’s plan including their proposal to supplement the existing gas tax with an added per mile tax. How do they plan to do this? Will the gas tax eventually be retired? Then we discuss SANDAG’s plan to charge non-users of public transportation pay so users can ride for free.

Squid Game is the hot new show on Netflix. We explore the characters, the plot line and wonder why this is the most watched show in Netflix history. Then we get into the symbolism of the show. Is it a reflection of capitalism? A reflection of socialism? Are viewers channeling their own debt anxiety through these characters?

Finally, we take a look recent Poway news including the recall effort of Poway Mayor Steve Vaus. We also discuss the 40% hike in water rates and the efforts of Poway community organizers to legally block the hike.

So much good stuff!

Ed Franklin No Limits Podcast:

The supply chain mess is everywhere you look. Ships are waiting offshore near the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. There are product shortages and worker shortages. Mass chaos!

We break down all of the reasons for the Supply Chain Mess. Who is to blame? The government, of course! They are distorting the market with artificially high demand and artificially low supply.

Prices go up. We get product shortages.

Our discussion explores bailouts, stimulus, stay-at-home orders, and easy loans. We discuss the impact of business shutdowns, early retirement, immigration, career changes, and tariffs. Plus we get into housing, trucking, college, automobiles, microchips, healthcare and much more.

Trucker Stories

Then I share stories of my childhood being raised in a trucking family. I describe the challenges of an owner-operator. We discuss how trucking companies outsource the financial risk to naïve business owners. There used to be great pride of being a truck owner. We get into Smokey and the Bandit, CW McCall, CB radios, and listening to San Francisco Giants games all over Northern California. I also share my terrifying experiences driving over the San Mateo Hayward Bay Bridge as a 10-year-old in a semi-truck.

Poway News Update

I also offer a range of news updates on hot topics in Poway including the new plan for The Outpost, the lights at Starridge Park, the new Poway water infrastructure plan. Then I also share thoughts on Poway Water Rates, the Sports Arena site, and both San Diego State Aztec and UC San Diego Triton sports programs.

SEO

Finally, I share my initial insights with the SEO tool ahrefs. Plus, strategies to get your website to rank highly in Google.

Why are UC Berkeley, Stanford, and UCLA so afraid of competing with San Diego State University?

For the past 2-3 decades we have seen SDSU rise up both athletically and academically to create a national brand that is respected from coast to coast. SDSU regularly boasts some of the highest numbers of student applicants every year. At the same time, the Aztec men’s basketball and football programs have a combined winning percentage ranked second in all of the United States in D1 sports.

Yet UC Berkeley, Stanford, UCLA, and other universities have kept SDSU out of the Pac-12 conference.

We break down the historical roots of the 2-tiered (actually 3-tiered) higher education system in California and how this battle between San Diego State and Cal/UCLA has been raging for over 6 decades.

I also reflect on my own experiences as a graduate of UC San Diego, my rooting adoption of SDSU athletics, and UCSD’s transition into D1 sports.

We also get into research funding, the SDSU Mission Valley campus and SDSU’s future goals for academic, research and athletic excellence.

Special thanks to Paul Garrison for his research on this topic. His article in the East Village Times is the inspiration for this podcast episode.

We break down the City of Poway’s plan to open up Starridge Park to Poway Girls Softball, including the objections from the local neighbors.

We also discuss upcoming Poway elections, candidates Brian Pepin and Tony Russo, and the potential of a recall of Poway Mayor Steve Vaus.

First a near death experience after a motorcycle accident and supernatural dreams in a coma. Then reliving a near death experience when revisiting the scene of the accident and fulfilling promises made.

Mike Smith and Pete Neild join me to discuss their recent trip to Maui as they retrace the events that led to that fateful day. They eventually make it up to the top of Haleakala in a Corvette, a destination they were unable to fulfill that fateful day while on motorcycles

As they retell their reliving a near death experience story, we discover so many cases of coincidental numbers, bizarre Google maps interpretations, and other signals from the beyond.

This should be an Art Bell episode.
