  • Business Girlfriends come together on Entrepreneurial Voice!

I was recently in LA for two podcast conferences and spent time with some amazing entrepreneurial women. One of my favorites is Jan McCarthy, Artist & Host of the podcast Entrepreneurial Voice. It was a blast to visit her art studio where she records her shows live from LA. Enjoy!

Traci DeForge talks directly about workaholism. It is the only addiction where you get accolades instead of intervention.

Find out how an email address morphed into a successful business.

The combination of art and business are equally as important as the intersection of personal and business growth.

    TAKEAWAY:

Find out your why.  What would you be doing if money was no issue?

Can you describe yourself in 6 words? Mine is….Influencer for impactful and creative change.

    QUOTES

“Work-alcoholism is the only addiction which brings accolades not intervention.” - Traci DeForge

Russ and Traci have a lively discussion on 19 businesses being “killed” by Millennials and the newer trends of our fast-paced convenience driven lifestyle.

Youthful generations have always made an impact on lifestyle trends which can make or break the success of an entire industry.

There is one grounding reality in the sea of business trend evolution.

    Traci DeForge Takeaways:

Pay attention to what your customers need, not just what is trendy.

  • Conscious Communications

Traci and Russ interview Mary Shores, entrepreneur and author of the book Conscious Communications; Your Step-by-Step Guide to Harnessing the Power of Your Words to Change Your Mind, Your Choices, and Your Life.

    In this episode:

Based on two decades of research, Mary Shores teaches how you can create new neural pathways by changing your words.

Gratitude is a state of mind that arises when you affirm good things in your life that come from outside yourself. When people in great numbers choose to practice gratitude, the cumulative force can help create the kind of world we all hope for.

Whether we realize it or not, the words we use dictate and control our lives. The persistent messages we repeat can frame our thoughts and trap us into a mind-set that is difficult to break. This mind-set often manifests itself with statements like “I can’t,” “I’m not good enough,” and “I’ll never find the [insert the blank] I want.” Many times, we don’t stop to consider the profound impact that these negative, limiting words have on our mentality, life choices, and the path of possibility that we manifest.

After gathering years of research and personal experience with how words affect individuals mentally and emotionally, business owner and communications specialist Mary Shores realized that there is a life-changing theme persistent throughout ancient traditions and spiritual foundations that is supported by scientific professionals. They all agree on one recurring truth: Words have the power to create and transform.

Mary took her discoveries and created easy-to-follow, step-by-step practices that can transform each area of your life. Based on two decades of research, Mary teaches how you can create new neural pathways simply by changing your words. You can align your words, thoughts, and actions to produce the results you want. Conscious Communications can show you how!

Conscious Communications is your guide to creating a life in alignment with your dreams and desires. With thoroughly tested exercises, research, advice, and personal stories, you will begin to experience the tremendous impact of words and how to utilize the right ones to unleash and unlock the power to create a new reality.

    Traci DeForge Takeaway:

    The Zen 10:

Yoga • Meditation • Relaxing Bath • Social Media Fast • Healing Body Work • Deep Breathing • Exercise • Laughter • Heart Hugs • Sleep For 8 Hours A Night

This is a list of ten ways to support your nervous system, and they all do essentially the same thing: each will reduce your stress, provide an overall increase in happiness and help with issues in the tissues, targeting the neurons and chemicals in your brain and getting them to work for you.

    You’re going to pick three:

One that you will commit to doing every day,

One that you will commit to doing once a week

One that you will commit to doing once a month.

    QUOTES:

“The life you create is based on the choices that you make.” - Traci DeForge

“Awareness of your choices is the key to the doors of freedom.” -Mary Shores

  • MIA due to a MRI

    In This Episode:

Denial is powerful. It is even more powerful when your body is trying to speak to you about the state of your wellness.

Traci talks frankly about how blurry vision, migraines, forgetfulness… and other neurological symptoms led to an unlikely wake up call.

Are you guilty of fake relaxing?

Don’t be blindsided when it comes to your own health. Be your own advocate.

If you are not paying attention to your body it will keep reminding you until you do.

    Traci DeForge Takeaway:

Don’t be blindsided by side effects of medication. List your medications and list the side effects. Cross check them and then check in on your wellness.

    Be your own health advocate.

Wake up to your own state of well-being before your body gives you a wakeup call.

    Quotes:

"You are only as good for your business are you are for yourself."

"If you're not paying attention to your body; It will keep reminding you until you do."

  • To have & to hold (at work?)

    In This Episode:

Working together in your relationship is hard enough. Can your relationship withstand working together in your business?

Are these Pros or Cons when working with your significant other?

    * Provides an opportunity to spend a lot of time together * Provides an easier commute * Ability to plan days off together * Share similar Interests * Creates greater dedication towards work * Mutual respect exists * Better understanding of the job and each other

Trust that when one of you says you will do something, it will get done.

    Power Couples:

Bill and Melinda Gates travel separately

Eventbrite cofounders and entrepreneurs Kevin and Julia Hartz did quarterly reviews of their relationship when launching their business

Relationship Contracts are a new trend. They are being used to define the relationship. This all started out of cohabitation agreements before same sex marriage was legal.

Priscilla Chan famously detailed her requirements of Mark Zuckerberg in a relationship contract before moving to California to be with him. Notably, she requested 100 minutes of shared time (neither to be spent in his apartment or in the Facebook headquarters) per week. Additionally, she required one date night per week.

Re-defining power couples. Dual careers with high stress. Marriage between two doctors, or lawyers or similarly stressful jobs.

    Traci DeForge Takeaways:

Manage EXPECTATIONS. It is important to define roles up front and to clearly communicate each other’s expectations upfront so silent resentments do not build up.

Make it a priority to keep your work time and family time separate.

  • Motivation or Momentum? Find out the difference and why it matters.

    In This Episode:

To get momentum we must be motivated. To get motivated we need momentum. This is not a riddle. Find out why.

Motivation is REASON. Momentum is the ACTION you take.

According to the experts in the sciences of neurology and behavior – 95% of what drives our behavior as human beings is unconscious.

Is motivation or momentum the ultimate chicken and egg dilemma?

DEFINE THE WIN! You can’t get momentum until you define the win. Every little win is one step closer to more momentum.Traci DeForge Takeaways:

Get an accountability partner. If you don’t have somebody that is on the same page with where you’re going then invest in a coach or consultant.

Lower the bar to raise the bar: Start out with a first draft or first sketch that is not your best. This helps minimize your fear.. It can only go up from there!

    Quote:

"It is never the size of your problem that is the problem. It’s a lack of momentum." -John Maxwell
