  • Be Bored. Breaking through barriers by being bored.

According to the 2016 Nielsen Report, the average American spends approximately 65% of waking hours consuming media. This makes it virtually impossible to disconnect. Redefine Boring and start generating innovative solutions to that roadblock.

    In This Episode:

It is not about finding something to do when you are bored it is about setting aside time to be bored.

According to the 2016 Nielsen Report, the Average American consumes 10 hours and 39 minutes of technology per day.

    Boredom = Sparking Creative Thinking

Use the time when you are bored to reflect on the why you are bored. Opportunities can pass you if you are not aware of what is making you bored in the first place.

    Traci DeForge Takeaways:

Redefine Productivity – Accept your limitations on productivity. Embrace what you get done in a day instead of beating yourself up on what you didn’t get done.

You can alter your brain chemistry by repeatedly doing the same sabotaging behaviors but you can create new patterns by starting to do things in a differently. Take a different route to work. Go in late instead of early. Work from a co-working space instead of from home. Try a library. They are free!

  • Willpower vs Willingness: Can you have one without the other?

    In This Episode:

    Definition of Willpower and Willingness

    will·pow·er ˈwilˌpou(ə)r/ noun

    1. control exerted to do something or restrain impulses. 2. “most of our bad habits are due to laziness or lack of willpower

    will·ing·ness ˈwiliNGnəs/ noun

    1. the quality or state of being prepared to do something; readiness. 2. “the ability and willingness of workers to migrate” synonyms: readiness, inclination, will, wish, desire, alacrity “we appreciate your willingness to help”

Willpower vs Willingness: Can you have one without the other?

Is there an unlimited amount of willpower?

If willpower isn't limited why do we feel depleted and how can we tap into that potential endless supply of energy?

Choose your perspective: Research shows you may feel wiped out from a task you perceive as work but if the activity is shifted to a fun activity accomplishing the same goal your energy goes up!

Find out what dancing and willpower have in common.

Recent studies suggest it may be possible to choose how your willpower works for yourself. It is about shifting your idea around the concept in general.

Will I do it?  Or I will do this. Which is your perspective?

Learn the key to creating more intrinsic motivation.

Setting your mind on a goal may be counterproductive. Instead, think of the future as an open question.

An interesting study by Ibrahim Senay of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign lends scientific support to the recovery concepts of surrender and openness. He found that people who kept their minds open (“Will I do this?”) were more goal-directed and more motivated than the people who firmly declared their objective (“I will do this”). Having the freedom of choice seemed to create more intrinsic motivation—

Why do you act differently when you believe willpower is unlimited? You procrastinate less and prepare more efficiently. You’re more likely to view solving a challenging problem as a motivating experience, instead of an exhausting one. If a task goes more smoothly because of better preparation, it’s probably easier to keep that good momentum going.

Michael Inzlicht, a researcher at the University of Toronto, explains that self-control crises happen when two of your goals conflict. Your emotional response determines your choice. It’s not that you’re completely unable to resist the pint of rocky road ice cream in the freezer. It’s more likely that losing 10 pounds by swimsuit season is a less valuable goal to you than a creamy treat right now.

    Traci's Takeaways from this show:

Have the willingness to reach out and ask for help when struggling with any addiction. Willpower is not the solution.

  • Face your Facts

    In This Episode:

The big buzzword ‘catch phrase’ is, “live your truth”. Traci tells her account of how she was presented with here own a-ha on facing your truth in the most uncomfortable way…..

You can’t live your truth if you are disillusioned by it.

Facing facts about yourself is tough but if you are open to hearing it you will be better for it.

When you hear the truth -as tough as it may be to hear- you know it is true. You feel the truth in your gut.

You are not what you do – You are defined by who you are not what you do.

There is the manager side of you and the creative worker side of you. Many have an unawakened manager and a very tired creative worker.

Redefine your definition of solitude and isolation.

    Takeaways from this show:

Say it. Write it. Leave it – when things are stressing you out or stuck in a loop in your head… say it to someone outloud. Write it down and then… leave it ALONE.

Systems can be overwhelming take small steps first and a smoother transition will present itself as things settle out.

  • Time Capsule

    In This Episode:

If you buried a time capsule 10 years ago that contained items of who you were and what you wanted to become and then opened it ….What would it say about the person you are today.

A time capsule is a historic cache of goods or information, usually intended as a method of communication with future people and to help future archaeologists, anthropologists, or historians.

Today’s show layout a sequence of events ranging from Chipolte ads to Fortune Cookies!

The time is below so you can keep track of all the twists and turns!

Friday:  Saw a video of Danielle LaPorte whom I met as she was just getting her start in the “guru space” in 2010, she being interviewed by a “new-gu”. My first response was envy shortly followed up by a flogging session since it was not me interviewing her.

Saturday: I was restless so I went to my Get Your Muse On warehouse to be around some creativity. Instead of painting, I cleaned out my desk drawer and found an article I wrote for a magazine in 2005… It felt like I opened a time capsule and yet it was validating at the same time.

Saturday Evening: I watched the documentary Losing site of the shore. The message from 4 ladies crossing the Pacific by rowing was “Everybody has their own Pacific to cross.”

Sunday: I got a fortune cookie that said “Your original ideas will bring well-deserved recognition…

Monday: I had a big a-ha…. 2005 wasn’t my time. How to create sustainable long-term change and valuing time is still my message but I had to cross my own ‘pacific’ of getting up and getting knocked down again to really have the message translate in my most authentic way.

    Now is my time.

    Takeaways from this show:

Create a reflection time capsule. Take a moment to sit and write about where you were ten years ago, five years ago, one year ago. Are you on your intended path? Are you staying true to your truth and person you wanted to become?

Willingness is the key to create change. The word yes does not always equate willingness. Say NO to the people, places and things blocking the path to becoming the you you’ve always wanted to be.
