The official referendum voting day is this coming Saturday, the 14th of October.

It’s been over 23 years since Australians last had to vote in a referendum, so for many of us it may be a first.

So, to help guide us through the process and to make sure our vote counts, Rach & Dean from JOY Breakfast were joined by Nye Coffey, who is the Australian Electoral Officer for Victoria.

Award winning Australian singer-songwriter, Michael Waugh hid his sexuality for years after being subjected to homophobia as a young person, but now, Michael is here, queer and spreading the news – starting with a brand new single ‘We Are Here’.

Michael joined Rach & Dean on JOY Breakfast for a special Live Lounge where they discussed coming out of the closet, country music and being your authentic self.

This was a very special Live Lounge which almost had Rach and Dean in tears.

 

This Sunday, October 8th, is International Lesbian Day – a day to celebrate lesbians from all over the world, inviting us to come together to honour lesbian history, diversity and culture.

Coming into JOY Breakfast all the way from Brisbane is Ruth Gardner, co-host of Dykes on Mics, a program from community radio station 4 Triple Zed in Brisbane, and also broadcast here on Joy 94.9 on Monday nights from 7 to 9pm.

If you’re in Brisbane you can catch the Dykes on Mics here on 4 Triple Zed in Brisbane on Wednesdays from 6 to 8pm. 

Gender-fluid pop-provocateur Dorian Electra, a star in their own right, has also been known for collaborating with some amazing artists including Lady Gaga, Charli XCX, Pussy Riot and more and joins Rach and Dean on JOY Breakfast to talk about their third album ‘Fanfare’.

The Pier Festival is back again for a third year, on Saturday the 7th of October in Williamstown.

Featuring music, drag and DJs, the festival has been created as a safe space where individuals feel welcomed and empowered to be whoever they want to be, focusing on featuring the incredible queer women and gender diverse musicians and talents our community has to offer.
