Top cities and provinces with highest Immigrant retention in Canada. Who are they?

Statscan released information on the top cities with highest immigrant retention. The report was released by StatsCan on the 10th of January, 2022. The top 3 cities were Toronto, Vancouver and Edmonton. Toronto accounted for 85.5% whereas Edmonton had 84.6% and Vancouver had 86.1%. 

On the Provincial side, Ontario had the highest retention rate of 93.7% followed by British Columbia of 89.7% closely followed by Alberta by 89%. PEI or Prince Edward Island has one of the lowest retention rate of 28.1%. 

This information could be helpful to new immigrants when the come to Canada and select the region of their habitation if their pick is not influenced by relatives and friends, or jobs.

PEI releases a structured approach to 2022 PNP draws and has announced their schedule for the year

PEI or Prince Edward Island is the only province with a structured approach to their immigration needs and has announced their schedule for the year to the public. 

Based on the release of their schedule, we can see 12 PEI PNP draws in 2022. These draws would release information on provincial nomination under Express Entry, Labour Impact and Business Impact categories. Listed below are the release schedule for the Province for 2022

In 2021, a total of 1,804 immigration candidates to apply for a provincial nomination by the province. 1,697 were from the Labour Impact and Express Entry streams and 157 were from the Business Impact stream.

Let us spend a few minutes understanding the PEI PNP Express Entry Category. The PEI PNP’s Express Entry Category is an Federal platform based nomination where the pick is from the federal government’s Express Entry system. Obviously, you must have an active profile in the Federal Express Entry pool to be considered for this pick. The express Entry system evaluates points based on multiple factors like age, work experience, education, and language proficiency in English or French and awards points. Express entry profile approved candidates who is awarded a CRS score will obtain 600 points is selected by a Province which will propel their CRS scores almost guaranteeing them a pick in the pool.

Also keep in mind, that you need to create a EOI profile with PEI for the Federal Express Entry selection and the profile must be active. Applicants must be mindful of the expiry of their English or French language scores. The province evaluates the candidates through their Provincial Expression and points and awards nomination based on scores or other factors

Let us now talk about PEI’s Labour Impact Category

This category is for foreign nationals who have a valid job offer in PEI with employer participation. There are three streams under this category: Skilled Worker, Critical Worker, and International Graduate. Candidates must have a EOI profile with the province to participate in the program. 

Business Impact Category is for Entrepreneurs interested in setting up a business in the province

Good news for people with medical conditions who falls under Medical Inadmissibility for Canadian Permanent Residence

The Government has increased the medical admissibility threshold to $24,057 per year from $21798 as a threshold for Medical and Social services needs of a new immigrant to qualify. This increase in threshold could benefit some Permanent Residence applicants who otherwise may not qualify if they have certain ailments which would increase their medical or social services costs in Canada. This threshold increase was announced on January, 04, 2022

The following are some of the costs considered with the medical condition

home care by a nurse, physiotherapist, respiratory therapist or other care provider;

palliative care;

psychological counseling;

medical aids, appliances and prostheses;

residential facilities, including long-term care and substance abuse services;

day facilities providing constant supervision, for example respite care;

physician services;

nursing services;

laboratory and diagnostic services;

pharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical services;

hospital services;

chemotherapy and radiotherapy;

dialysis;

supplies related to these services, and;

psychiatric services.
