This morning's message is for those who like to have complete control. The big surrender to the Infinite Intelligence of the Universe takes some practice, even though we know that’s the way to go. It makes sense in theory, but to trust the process in the midst of, “I don’t know, but I will act like I know what’s best,” is a typical thought pattern which blocks the emergence of Spirit’s wisdom. I trust this morning's message will assist you in surrendering your position as to how it should be an opening up to "the greater yet to be" that is divinely ordained for your life. Today is an exciting day at Seaside, with graduation taking place at 4:00 pm. We will have Ministerial and Practitioner candidates walking down our aisle in their caps and gowns while family and friends watch them. These students from around North America have spent years on their spiritual paths, committing themselves to their studies. They have traveled great distances to work with inspired teachers and facilitators to help deepen their connection with God. A big shout-out of congratulations to them all! Come back and join us for the Graduation and Reception. After today, they will go on to their oral exams before they become licensed by Centers for Spiritual Living to represent our movement in ecclesiastical matters.

I’ve never been keen on having to learn through difficulties. But with that said, if you do find yourself in the midst of a challenge, there is no need to waste the gifts it can bring you. There is wisdom waiting to be gleaned from a difficult time. Too often we are in such a rush to move away from it, we forget to take a look at what there is to learn. Barbara Marx Hubbard used to say, “There’s no need to waste a good crisis.” I trust this morning’s message will help us to find the wisdom in difficult times if those times come to visit.

I like the title of this morning’s message, "What Hinders You?" This question is a Spiritual Tool that can lead one right to and through whatever is getting in the way. The question will give direction to an obvious answer, but if one is willing to go deeper with the question, a greater realization can emerge. The initial issue is often on the surface, gaining all the attention of a deeper cause. The real cause can appear if one is willing to be honest with themselves. Lisa Nichols said, “The best motivation doesn’t taste good. Some motivation comes wrapped up in sandpaper.”

Today we welcome the beautiful music of the mother and daughter duo, Deejah and Sharifah.

I love Mother’s Day. It reminds me to consciously pause and remember my mom. I was blessed to have a wonderful mother who taught me about love through example. She was a powerhouse. When she prayed, God said, “yes ma'am!” I learned that love and strength can go hand in hand. As a Spiritual Practitioner, she used to see 40 clients a week and did that for 30 years. She had a connection with Spirit that produced healing results. She demonstrated the power of the heart and mind over the conditions of this world.

Mother’s Day is a wonderful time to take a moment to reconnect with your mother, whether in this plane of existence or in another. The love that brought you two together in this world transcends time and space and will surely unite you again if that is your heart’s desire. A great way to accomplish that is to remember something you appreciated and let that lead you into picking up the phone or simply opening your heart connection so you two can communicate your love.

Earth Day occurred last week. The Seaside Sisters, under the guidance of Kalli Holmes Sorensen, created a beautiful evening of rituals with the fire pit and water blessing. The chanting led by Flossie Park and the drumming and earth blessing from Gary Palisch, a Native American from the Lakota Nation, was transcendent. As Easter so closely preceded Earth Day this year, I felt a few words about our Mother Earth today was still in order. I am always inspired when I spend some time reconnecting my heart, soul, and mind with our beautiful planet that so incredibly supports our life as we live and walk on her "surface." Today begins the gathering of our offerings of meals/events for Gourmets for God. This is the time of the year we ask you to create a meal to share with members and friends of Seaside. It is a great way to connect with people and deepen friendships with fellow community members. Next month we will open up silent bidding to auction off the seats at your event.

In six weeks, on Friday, June 14, Lisa Nichols will be speaking at Seaside. She is one of our nation’s leading inspirational speakers for the corporate world. She became well known for her spiritual work on Oprah when she first visited her after appearing in the movie - “The Secret.” Today, after the second service, is our first volunteer meeting to support this event. I invite you to join me and Kay Samuelson, RScP for a short gathering in the Emerson Room.

Given Easter today we have a full band with a horn section along with our musical guest artists Karl Anthony, The Seaside Choir, and our Artistic Director Rebecca Jade.

I love Easter at Seaside. The band is full, the music is powerful, and so many of us have come together to celebrate the essence of Spring and life rising in our world! It’s about remembering; no matter how down we might be on ourselves or what heaviness is perceived around us, there is an indomitable life force seeking to 'spring-up' with a fresh vibrancy as our life renews itself now.

The great religions from the beginning of time have celebrated the Spring with their stories of life, from the Greek’s Persephone to the Celtic’s Brigit. Also, there was Inanna, a Sumerian Spring goddess associated with love and beauty from 3,200 BC, later worshipped as Ishtar. Ghana, in Africa, honors Ashanti, who is the earth goddess who prepares to bring forth new life in the Spring at the festival of Durbar. The Norse fertility goddess Freya abandons the earth during the cold months, but returns in the Spring to restore nature's beauty. The Egyptian Osiris, a god of resurrection and fertility, dies and is reborn.

The resurrection theme is popular among Spring deities and is also found in the stories of Adonis, Mithras and

Attis. Eostre is a goddess that the Anglo-Saxons honored in the Spring. She is also known as Ostara, the Germanic Spring Goddess, her symbols of the egg and rabbit forming part of today's Easter celebrations. The Hindu Saraswati, the goddess of the arts, wisdom, and learning, has her own festival each Spring in India called Saraswati Puja–and the list goes on from around the world.

The fertility story of new life rising in us is a powerful transcultural story that reminds us to align with new and greater possibilities stirring in our soul this time of year.
