Dr. Christian’s CornerRev. Brian Anderson is a Religious Science legend who led the Vista Church of Religious Science with his wife Dr. Sheila for more than thirty years. My friendship with Rev. Brian goes back even further than that. When I first came to town in 1991 he bought Seaside its first tape duplicating machine and said we’ve got to get the message out. Funny to think how times have changed from tape to CDs to now podcasts and live streaming. Through all the years Rev. Brian has used his humor and leprechaun-like personality to take people to a deep place in their walk with God! He has been lighting up the North County of San Diego literally for decades, and it’s about time he now has a Sunday to bring his passion to Seaside. ~ In Love, Rev. Christian.

Dr. Christian’s CornerIt has been a fun season of exploring the spiritual messages of the cinema with all of you this summer. Seaside’s theme this summer has been healing. These films delivered that message beautifully: Black Panther with the dying of the old self and having your greater one rise to the occasion. Patch Adams' message of the healing power of humor. Wild had us take a look at healing grief and forgiving the self in the process, whereas Antwone Fisher had us healing childhood traumas and forgiving others. Green Book stretched many of us with taking an honest look at healing our racial bias. Eat, Pray, Love encouraged us on the healing journey of rediscovering ourselves. Today Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga will take us on a healing musical tour looking at self-worth and alcoholism. ~ In Love, Rev. Christian.

Dr. Christian’s CornerI found this quote by Elizabeth Gilbert that beautifully wraps up today's message from Eat, Pray, Love: “If you’re brave enough to leave behind everything familiar and comforting, which can be anything from your house to bitter, old resentments, and set out on a truth-seeking journey, either externally or internally, and if you are truly willing to regard everything that happens to you on that journey as a clue, and if you accept everyone you meet as a teacher...and if you are prepared, most of all, to forgive some very difficult realities about yourself, then the truth will not be withheld from you.” ~ Liz Gilbert. ~ In Love, Rev. Christian.

Dr. Christian’s CornerGreen Book won the Oscar this year for best picture at the Academy Awards. The story is a powerful commentary on part of our nation's history. It helps us remember our path and hopefully reminds us not to repeat those times.
New York City bouncer Frank "Tony Lip" Vallelonga is searching for new employment while the Copacabana nightclub, where he works, is closed for renovations. He is invited to an interview with Doctor Don Shirley, an eccentric African American pianist who is looking for a driver for his eight-week concert tour through the Midwest and Deep South. Don hires Tony on the strength of his references and with the agreement of Tony's wife, Dolores. They depart with plans to return to New York on Christmas Eve. Don's record label representatives give Tony a copy of the "Green Book," a guide for African-American travelers to find motels, restaurants, and filling stations that would serve them.

Dr. Christian’s CornerAntwone Fisher is a young sailor, played by Derek Luke, whose life was impacted by his placement in an orphanage and being raised in an abusive foster home. In spite of the violent outbursts from the psychological trauma of his childhood, a caring psychiatrist, played by Denzel Washington, helps Antwone find his way. A rough road back, he eventually embraces forgiveness where the head doesn’t want to let go but the heart knows it’s the only answer. ~ In Love, Rev. Christian.

Dr. Christian’s CornerIf you want to know yourself, you need to be with yourself. Cheryl Strayed, played by Reese Witherspoon in this week’s movie, went into the Wild and met aspects of herself she would never have known otherwise. As her world was falling apart, she chose to hike the Pacific Crest Trail for an adventure and was presented the opportunity to deal with her fears made manifest. Through her experience, she found an inner strength and self knowingness that allowed her to return to life with a renewed passion. ~ In Love, Rev. Christian.

Dr. Christian’s CornerI’m excited to share Dr. David Goldberg with you today. As "Publishing Editor" of the Science of Mind Magazine with a readership of 80,000 a month, he regularly touches more individuals with Religious Science than any other minister in our movement. He’s dear to my heart, having published my three 365-day journal books - Joyous Freedom, Joyous Living, and Joyous Abundance - that’s more than 1,000 days of positive living pages for the world. He is part of the Leadership Council of the Association for Global New Thought that has brought us the Season for Nonviolence and many other spiritually motivated activism events. He is in town this week as the teacher of a class for the students of the CSL School of Spiritual Leadership. He is a big visionary who is dearly loved in our movement. Enjoy! I look forward to seeing you next week.
