  • Self-Awareness | JRP DAILY 155

This episode is episode #1 of a five day series I've decided to do on self-development and understanding yourself.

Self-awareness is by far going to be the most important characteristic for you to grasp so make sure you listen to this episode over, and over, and over again until you know you have it. If you do not have your self awareness under control, you will never be able to move forward in life.

Self-awareness is all about detaching your internal self from the external world. It is understanding who you are as a person, without factoring in the relevance that it has to the rest of the world or our perceptions.  This means knowing your personality, character, values, skills, abilities, and so on... without labeling them as good or bad.

The reason self-awareness is so important is because it will be the difference between you expanding your limits and breaking out, and just being limited by those limitations. For example, if you are a terrible singer, but plan on being the next winner of American Idol... you are just wasting your own time trying to pursue something that you are not meant to be doing. You are running yourself face first into a wall when there is a door leading to massive opportunity just on the other side of the room.

Is it all making sense yet?

  • Is an MBA Useless? | JRP DAILY 152

Who here is getting sick of hearing the college debate? I know I am.

However, I still love having it because I love the discussions I get to have with people and well... it's a hot topic.

I'm going to try and push a little farther here though. In the next coming weeks I am going to put out more episodes on different aspects of the college debate and try to see if that gets us anywhere.... or maybe it'll just get us more confused.

But please, reach out to the show and let me know what you think and let me know when I'm right, when I'm wrong, etc.

I really want to start connecting with all of you, so use the links below to stay in touch with me.

  • How to Get Amazing Guests for your Podcast | JRP DAILY 151

So I've been getting asked time and time again lately... "how do you get these people on your podcast to actually talk to you?"

Honestly, I don't know what people are expecting my answer to be. It's not like I have some magic wand or I'm using some sort of weird blackmail to get these people on my show.

I simply reach out through Instagram or email and ask people if they want to be on my show.

The only "edge" I might have is that I work with other podcasters and we all kind of bounce guest ideas off of each other, or have connections that can be made to get us to who we want to have.

Other than that, it is really just a matter of asking, and working your way through one guest to the next.

And then once you have better guests on, the easier it should get for things to really snowball from there.

  • The Power of Choice | JRP DAILY 149

It's time to touch on the topic of control.

The big two Cs in life that just nobody seems to understand. Their control and their choices.

Let me make this as simple as I possibly can. YOU control your actions, and your reactions. You control what you do, and what direction you are going to take your life in.

You DO NOT control other people's actions. They do. So if you tell someone they need to be at a certain place at a certain time, I'm not saying they won't be there, but I am saying that they are the ones that decide whether or not they show up. They are the ones that decide if they're going to be on time. They are the ones that control what they do. You are the one that controls how you react when they do or don't arrive. Get it?

The second part of this is CHOICES. For some reason I still see full grown adults out in the world every single day not understanding their choices or the fact that they even have them.

The world works like this, you always have a choice, and each choice is always backed by consequences. You can pick a choice, you can pick a consequence, the only thing you can't do is pick the relationship between a choice and a consequence.

Any time that you are saying "I don't have a choice" all you are really trying to do is pass blame off to someone or something else. When you pass blame off to someone and something else, you are just admitting that you have no say in your own life. That's honestly just pathetic.

So it's time to jump in the driver's seat and steer your own life in whatever direction you want.. and get rid of your life's back seat drivers.

    Do it now.

  • Build Your Life, Not Your Résumé | JRP DAILY 148

Today I want to talk to you all about just how important your résumé really is.

That is... your life résumé, not that silly little piece of paper that you hand to some guy in a suit in order to hope to be able to spend 40 hours per week for the next years of your life at some place that you hate in order to afford a lifestyle that is barely satisfying.

In this episode, I'm going to cover how you can start living.

Especially if you're young, I think this is something that is missed by a whole bunch of people. Go out and do what you can while you can.

Travel, push yourself, do cool new things, start whatever adventure you want. There's really no better time than now to get started.

Everyone will spend too much time trying to figure out how to build their résumé , polish their résumé, and make it look as "good" as possible. The reason I put "good" in quotes is because really... everyone is trying to just make it look like everyone else's!

We have this idea of what a "good" résumé looks like and we have everybody trying to get theirs to THAT point!

Imagine you're an employer, you have a candidate for a new job walk in, and they hand you their résumé. They have a bachelor's degree in economics, played a sport in school, volunteered with the whatever club, maybe they were president of their class in high school, they were in a sorority, and they joined student government in college, because that means they like to be involved, right?

    Honestly, who cares?

Show me the guy that wrote his own book before the age of 24. Show the girl who started selling hair bows when she was 16 years old, and since made thousands of dollars doing so. Show me the guy that took a summer out of his life travelling across the country trying to meet and connect with people that he could interview on his own podcast.

Ambition is the key here, and I truly believe that the world is shifting to a spot where most, if not all, employers are going to care more about THAT than whether or not you were in steering committee in high school.

    But I could be wrong.

Hopefully, at some point in the future I will have the opportunity to bring him back on, because he is a man that I could probably talk to for three days straight without taking a break.

  • Use Some of These Hacks for Your Brain | Sunday Funday #8 | JRP DAILY 146

Justin and Gerard are back at it this week on JRP DAILY, and have some new and fascinating information about how to train your brain in order to work smarter in everyday life.

As we all know, in today's world it can be of utmost importance to work as smart as possible and not just as hard as possible. We are here to help you try to do that.

    ----------

If this is your first time watching or listening to JRP DAILY, here is a brief introduction of the hosts.

Justin Phillips is the main host of JRP DAILY hosting the show every single day for you guys to hear. He is a Financial Planning student studying entrepreneurship and marketing completely on his own. Starting this podcast in late 2018, Justin has already learned more in about six months than almost any classroom will ever provide. Through JRP DAILY, he has also been provided the opportunity to connect with other amazing entrepreneurs, and open up the doors to some major opportunities.

Gerard Mirabelli acts as a weekly co-host for JRP DAILY and is currently enrolled at Full Sail University for Game Art. Being an artist his whole life, Gerard decided that digital work was what he enjoys most, and decided that traditional college was not the right choice for him. So he went to Full Sail University on a 20-month bachelor's degree program to receive a bachelor's degree in Game Art, and he hopes to be able to find work freelancing or start a company to do design for video games and mobile games.
