it's self care september!!! I wanted to do an episode about self care this month because in the season of fresh beginnings, new school years, and new routines/habits, one of the biggest things I've learned recently is how I had so many limiting beliefs/misconceptions about self care, rest, and what I am worth/deserve, and I am willing to bet you have felt the same way. In this episode we not only unpack the things you're allowing yourself to believe or telling yourself that are keeping you small & in your comfort zone, and instead how to break out of that while still allowing for moments and pockets of comfort & peace. I share things like my favorite current routines for sleep, diet, exercise, and mental health and also unpack fun things like the hatch and scentbird!

I knew I needed to make this an episode when I didn't want to talk about it lol...
I felt honestly scared, anxious, and shameful during the experience. And that's when I realized, if this is how I feel as a LITERAL DENTIST that recommends this to patients every day, I need to share how I'm feeling so that if you're going through this too, you realize you're not alone. Even if it's not a root canal, whatever it is that you're feeling alone and upset by, just know this can be a powerful part of your journey.
I share some surprising things I wasn't expecting to learn and feel, and ultimately what I took away from this experience about the decisions we ask patients to make, the experience of being in pain, and having to emotionally overcome hurdles we associate with treatment.

Sometimes it feels like talking to a wall when we make recommendations to patients. We want so desperately to help them, it's actually IMPERATIVE for their health that they listen, but how do we help anyone that doesn't want to hear what we have to say?
Mark Goulston's book, Just Listen: Discover the Secret to Getting Through to Absolutely Anyone, teaches us how to draw people in so that they can't help but listen - but surprise, turns out WE'RE the problem that needs fixing first. The answer lies in this mistake you're repeatedly making, thinking this is how you get people to listen when you're only driving people farther away.
In this episode I unpack some of the incredible communications/business lessons from this book and tailor them to our scenarios every day at work as healthcare providers - here is how to ACTUALLY reach people and be heard.

Todays episode is filled with 100% boss energy, I met Dr. Octavia (@doctoroctavia) YEARS ago in 2018 at an interview and we immediately vibed! She shares her nuggets on:
- how taking unique opportunities that require courage like modeling and pageantry opened doors for her to get accepted to dental school
- how she navigated becoming a solo doc and leading her team after 7 months post grad
- how she shows up every day accepting that while we don't know it all, we can still strive to be our best and be life long learners

A Reddit post from a new grad dentist caught my eye recently, and I knew that my community would have the right words of encouragement for this person/anyone out there feeling similarly. Here are 6 voice memos from dentists of all experience levels sharing their support and encouragement, I applaud and thank this poster for being so vulnerable and an example of what integrity is - if you are going through a tough time with a freak accident, mistake, or disappointing case, I hope this episode is helpful for you!

Have you ever felt like you were about to spiral at work over a frustrating situation, something that made you scared or hurt, or something giving you anxiety?
Today I'm here to share with you something that goes hand in hand with communication and that is the art of self soothing/emotional regulation, something that seeps into everything we do and yet was not taught to us as children. I share tips and tricks I've learned from my therapist and nervous system coach to help me along the way - not saying im perfect or a guru but just sharing you the things that have worked best for me! We chat about tangible things like breathing techniques, physical ways to move our body and actions to do to slowly bring us to a more regulated state - I also share some explanations as to why we act this way, could our emotions possibly be subconsciously used by us as a manipulative tool? Find out in todays episode!
I also share the 3 small talk news stories of the week:
