Just Between Us – Your #1 Job is to Love Your Kid -No Matter What
There is a lot of discussion in contemporary society about being gay, gay marriage, being gay in the military, and so forth.
But there is very little said or written about what’s it like to be the parent or close family member of someone who is lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender. The reality for most parents is that they don’t want their child to be the member of a minority group that is subjected to horrible bias and oppression.
That’s not so crazy.
It is normal for parents to feel grief over any hardship their child faces.
That’s not so crazy either.
But for some parents the shock, or disappointment or upset is so deep that they either unwittingly or deliberately reject that gay child in many different ways.
A gay child whose parents think there’s something wrong with him, or worse, is going to be one miserable kid.
Children are desperate to know that they’re loved and accepted by their parents — even if it takes some time, and even if everyone doesn’t say exactly the right thing in the beginning or all the time.
