    Genesis 12-15
About Abram, how God called him, how and where he traveled.
We looked at a map in the OSB.
OSB commentary helps us see how the Holy Trinity is revealed in shadows in the book of Genesis. In the moment of the baptism of Christ in the Jordan, the Holy Trinity is revealed in perfect clarity. This event was just recently commemorated by the local Orthodox Churches on Jan. 6, last Sunday.

Full Orthodox exegesis on Genesis Chapter 6:1-7!
This week, as our reading brings us to Genesis Chapter 6, I thought it appropriate to share the paper I have recently researched and submitted in the Survey of Holy Scripture class I am taking at the OrthodoxTheologicalSchool.org. I received a 96.6% for the paper and so I feel confident in sharing it, that it is a decent treatment of the subject.
The format of reading off an 18 page paper is quite different than what we are used to in our bible study, but it is a great way to delve into the depth of these 7 verses of the bible, at least for once.
The paper follows an outline to include all the important elements of a work of Orthodox exegesis. Exegesis is the idea of drawing out the meaning of a text on multiple levels.
The culmination of the paper is a sermon written for an Orthodox church congregation in response to the study of this passage. I have written this sermon from my heart and am well aware it is not politically correct for the 21st century. It is very frank about the precarious times we are in and how we are all tainted by it, but I wish to emphasize the mercy of God and how He is quick to forgive and heal, as long as we wake up, become aware of our short comings and sins and turn to Him in repentance.

    Tobit 7-14
We wrap up the adventure of Tobias and Raphael. We are presented with a heartwarming picture of hospitality from the relatives of Tobit, a model of young marriage in the union of Tobias and Sarah, including three weeks of wedding feasts! We are given an example of spiritual warfare through the use of material substance at the instruction of an angel.
    Enjoy!

Today we began the book of Tobit!
The book of Tobit is a book that does not appear in most English Bibles. The reason for this is that most English Bibles are printed by protestants and the protestant reformers actually removed some books from the Old Testament. It's hard to believe, but it's true.
The book of Tobit is a tremendous treasure. It is an adventure story and a love story, chock full of tremendous examples of real heroism for the people of God in every age. It also has so much wisdom to share and insight into the angelic world and how it intersects with our lives.
I thought it appropriate to share it with our bible study and podcast listeners.

In the bible study, I mentioned an excellent series of lectures on the "Spiritual Will" of Tobit, the instructions Tobit gives to his son Tobias before he departs for the journey. If you would like to listen to that series, it is available for free download at an excellent website, where much more content of Orthodox Theology, spirituality and bible study is available.

"Pantocrator" is a Greek title (Παντοκράτωρ) for Jesus Christ which literally translates to "The Ruler of All". Sometimes is is rendered "The Almighty".
