Are you called negative when you are honest?
I wanted to do a podcast about negativity, which is a good thing. But, unfortunately, I think people believe that negative is wrong and it isn't. For the most part, being negative is a bad feeling we can all agree; it makes other people uncomfortable, and after a while, we get tired of ourselves. However, I implore you to take a different approach to negativity; it's a signal for change when we get negative. There is a shift in something in our lives, whether job, partner, education, or just life.
The things that once pleased us lead our bodies to stress and annoyance. Essentially ask yourself, have you or anyone you know ever made a change in their life when they were in a positive space? Be honest. I am guessing the answer would be "NO." When we are positive, things are good, probably moving our way. Life is not about stagnation. It is about moving and, of course, resting in areas. However, we live to evolve. It's a part of humanness, and the only way to do that is to address those negative feelings.
Being a Black Business Owner- One thing that I am proud of is being a black woman. Although I am black 365 days, I can appreciate black history month because it educates people about black people and what we have done for humanity—starting with everyday inventions that people mindlessly use and never think about.
Black history always reminds us of slavery and what our ancestors endured. Today, the modern approach is to do just that and support black businesses and entrepreneurial moves that black people are making. It reminds us of what they had to go through and all the pain they dealt with from being treated less than human. The pain they bared to get their freedom and our freedom today. Then, we would not have the right to vote, eat-in restaurants, live in neighbourhoods, drive, run a business, get married, have families (on our terms) and overall freedom. We are far from equal opportunities, but some of our oppressional chains have eased up.
Even though I celebrate the Lunar Year in February and pay respects to my 爷爷 (grandpa), I also celebrate being a black woman and all that my ancestors endured for me to be in the position I am today. Without them, the things I take for granted, like being educated and owning a business, would never happen. Of course, there are many challenges today being black and female. However, I am in a position to make changes thanks to them, and I am reminded of that every day, I get into my car, work at the clinic, and get coffee at Starbucks. These mundane things that are major like being a black female and having the job I have; would not be possible without their struggle; I have the privilege they did not get. I am grateful for the sacrifice. Now it is my turn to carry the torch.
Companies need to train workers to deal with time off better. People are very insensitive to the needs of others. It is excellent to work from home or sit in your comfortable office chair and dictate to others. We all have the same life stressors, so why people pretend that people aren't allowed to take off is beyond me. People need to be mindful of how they speak to others; why make someone wrong for taking time off? Everyone is entitled to a day off, and when we want the time, we take it, so we should allow others.
What I think annoys me the most is that it becomes evident that people are replaceable through the pandemic. Companies still thrive without past employees. Sure they have to get coverage, but you are just a number. And because you are a number, you have to take care of yourself and take the time when you need it. You are not a number to your friends and family; you are a person they rely on and come to when they need any support.
Workers are WORKERS, and they need to show respect to fellow workers and respect that when a person needs time off, to grant it. Especially if the person never calls in but has to. Furthermore, you know people live on the edge, and the last thing you should do to someone is guilting them because they need personal time.
This one is super personal. I usually do not talk about my personal life, at least when I see the person. However, I am older now and wiser, and people seem to really be interested in my romantic life. But to be fair, people have always had an interest in my personal life, lol I am not sure, I think, because they find it filled with so much drama. It's like a novella with me and these guys.
However, although not my forever partner, my current partner, just a lovely and peaceful stopover is terrific. After a year of tumultuous and toxic guy, this one could not be more amazing. Just because he mentors me with my career transition and checks on me, I felt like I should share what we did for V-tines.
Also, I speak about the beautiful V-tines I had with a few of my friends. Anyway, I wanted to spread some joy doing Valentine both ways.
