The Jacob’s Ladder folk festival. Well for those who miss it and lovers of folk, blues and jam sessions, there is another festival taking place this weekend. It’s called Singing At Nave Shalom and will host some of the well known Israeli singers and musicians in an atmosphere close to Jacob’s Ladder. While there are reports of progress toward reaching a ceasefire deal with Lebanon, the main obstacle is that Hezbullah wants one that will allow them to recover while Israel wants to ensure that does not happen. Sarit Zahavi, founder and president of the Alma research and education center, said that Iran’s decision to continue to support and enforce support for Hezbollah was making it difficult to reach a ceasefire. Prostate cancer is the most prevalent cancer among men in Israel, with some 3,500 new cases each year. A PSA-blood test can help in early detection of the disease. As part of prostate cancer awareness month, the Israeli Association of Living with Prostate Cancer recommends that men from the age of 55 do a PSA test annually. The association is offering through its web site an app that can track the yearly test, and send a reminder when it needs to be done. Speaking at the COP 29 climate change conference in Baku this morning, Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev said his country’s share in global gas emissions is only 0.1%.

He criticized Western fake news media NGOs for spreading disinformation and called oil, gas and other natural resources a "gift of God"  saying countries should not be blamed for having them or bringing them to the market.

Just last week, it was projected that 2024 would be the first year to breach the 1.5 degrees celsius  global warming limit set 9 years ago in the Paris agreement at COP21.

KAN's Mark Weiss spoke with leading environmentalist Prof Alon Tal from Tel Aviv University and the former head of the Knesset environment sub committee, and asked if this means the  effort to combat global warming is failing?

Some 64 percent of IDF reservists and immediate family members say that the burden of reserves on them is heavy, with personal and family hardship outweighing emotional difficulty, according to an October poll commissioned by the Israel Hofsheet NGO. The survey also found that as the war continues and reserve service lengthens, an increasing percentage of respondents say that passage of a law that would exempt haredi Orthodox from military service would harm their own personal motivation to do reserve duty. Uri Keidar, Executive Director of Israel Hofsheet spoke to KAN reporter Naomi Segal.

There has been a dramatic rise in the number of foreign-born Israelis, mostly Ukrainians and Russians, leaving the country. According data from the Central Bureau of Statistics, in the first nine months of 2023, 35,000 non-native-born Israelis left the country while only 7,000 returned, much higher percentage than native-born Israelis. Prof. Dan Ben David, president of The Shoresh Institution for Social Economic Research and economist at Tel Aviv University, said it wasn’t easy living here. Ben-David told reporter Arieh O’Sullivan that the numbers of those leaving, coupled with the judicial reforms plans and later the war were a wake-up call for the nation to get its act together.
