In recent weeks, packs of stray dogs originating from the Gaza Strip have been moving into Israeli territory and communities. The stray dogs have been reported near Kibbutz Erez, Beeri and Re’im as well as near Kfar Aza and Ein Habesor and other neighboring communities. Dr. Yehoshua Shkedi, the chief scientist of Israel’s Nature and Parks Authority, warned that these dogs not only pose a risk to humans, but were devastating to natural wildlife they prey on and spread diseases. He told reporter Arieh O’Sullivan that they must be delt with but that was difficult with a war on. The Israel-Hamas war differs from any previous conflict Israel has been involved in since 2000, with respect to its duration and the sheer number of reservists called up to active duty. As part of its State of the Nation Report 2023, the Taub Center for Social Policy Studies in Israel this week released a special chapter addressing the war's social and economic effects. Prof. Avi Weiss, President of the Taub Center and professor of economics at Bar-Ilan University, spoke to KAN's Naomi Segal about the findings and recommendations.

The October 7th Hamas invasion and massacre spurred many communities across the country to revive rapid-response squads and sparked large volunteer civilian mobilization. The ultra-Orthodox community, which largely is not drafted and has little security training, are lately shown an awakening inside their communities to contribute to the nation’s security needs. David M Weinberg, the founding senior fellow at the Misgav Institute for National Security and Zionist Strategy in Jerusalem, said there were many initiatives to cater to the ultra-Orthodox who want to contribute. He also told reporter Arieh O’Sullivan that the accusations of Jewish settler violence against Palestinians in the West Bank – often denounced by US leaders like President Joe Biden – was a myth based on fake news and an attempt to conjure-up a false moral counterweight to the Hamas violence. Armenian residents of Jerusalem's Old City are protesting against the plan to build a luxury hotel on a large plot of land in the historic Armenian Quarter.

An Armenian priest was defrocked after selling the plot , which today is mostly used as a car park,  to an Israeli-Australian property developer. The community is trying to stop the building of the hotel and suspect right-wing Jewish nationalist groups may be behind the initiative.
