  • Trope Drift: A Sternly Worded Surface to Air Missle
There is nothing more rewarding as a reader than when your favorite character gets to say exactly what you always wished they would in canon. It's a moment of vindication like no other, really, and we're going to talk about it tonight.Chatroom on my site: http://keiramarcos.com/chat-room/

  • Trope Drift: Time Travel
The time travel trope is easily the most popular trope in fan fiction. To fandom, time travel is the ultimate way to fix a canon event that they can't tolerate. We're going to talk about it.Lay Down Your Sweet And Weary Headhttp://archiveofourown.org/works/938431 The Time Meddlershttps://www.fanfiction.net/s/4061219/1/The-Time-Meddlers The Reunionhttps://www.fanfiction.net/s/4655545/1/Reunion Chatroom on my site: http://keiramarcos.com/chat-room/

  • Bitch Craft: Author Intent Vs Reader Expectations
Legessa asked a super long question that wouldn't fit in the box. Here's the TLDR  part:So now it comes down to it. Can what the reader has previously known as a secondary character lead a story without having to evolve to someone that is almost unknown, or was this a case of an author who focused so much on the plot being explained that everything else fell to the wayside to get there?Whole comment: http://keiramarcos.com/ask-me-anything/comment-page-3/#comment-32485Chatroom on my site: http://keiramarcos.com/chat-room/

  • Trope Drift: The Misunderstanding
The "misunderstanding" is one of the easiest tropes to insert into your fic because humans don't communicate well with other and most of our favorite characters are emotionally contispiated, broody assholes who avoid discussing anything remotely important. It creates instant conflict and can drive the plot.It can also be annoying as all fuck when done badly or you're left wondering how the hell the situation that the author has chosen is even remotely possible between two people who speak the same language. We'll discuss this.Chatroom on my site: http://www.keiramarcos.com

  • Trope Drift: The Big Secret
Secrets are a common trope, plot device, or world building element. Big secret, dark secret, secret identity, secret world, secret powers, dangerous secret, secret admirer, secret keeper, and so on. If you’re a writer, eventually you’re going to deal with secrets—whether you work with secrets on a small scale or large one. A look at how secrets can be used in your plot/world building for good and bad, and possibly new ways to approach the classic trope. Also, looking one of the more satisfying elements of the big secret trope: The Reveal.Chatroom on my site:http://keiramarcos.com/chat-room/

  • Trope Drift: Star Trek
From K: Hi, I was wondering if, in honor of Sept 8th being Star Trek Day, you would consider devoting a podcast to your Trek fics (including your Evil Author Day snippet of Instinct - which I adore) and maybe do a Trope Drift about Trek fics in general. And maybe offer some good Trek fics to read, as I haven't been the luckiest in finding good fics in that fandom.Tangled Destinies is my number one comfort fic to read. Jim and Spock's gentleness with each other contrasted against the harshness of the events happening to them directly and around them is so wonderful to read. Their gentleness and their protection of each other makes the part where Jim is forced to experience Pon Farr without Spock so much more effective and heart wrenching. Is that kind of reaction something you planned from the beginning? Or was it an accidental byproduct of how you wrote Jim and Spock?Chatroom on my site: http://keiramarcos.com/chat-room/Link:http://kyliselle.livejournal.com/4014.htmlhttp://kyliselle.livejournal.com/5392.htmlhttps://www.fanfiction.net/s/5344838/1/Atlashttp://archiveofourown.org/series/2522 http://archiveofourown.org/series/5176 https://archiveofourown.org/works/844797

  • Fandom & Junk: Twists on Fandom Tropes
"A trope is a storytelling device or convention, a shortcut for describing situations the storyteller can reasonably assume the audience will recognize." - TV TropesProbably nothing inspires more writers in fandom than a trope -- Sentinel AUs, A/B/O, Time Travel, Independent Characters, Soulmate AUs, Fix-It, Alternate Realities, Shifters, Daemons, etc. Tropes are essentially fandom fuel. We're going to talk about them tonight and ways to make them new.Chatroom on my site: http://keiramarcos.com/chat-room/
