Billy Graham had many admirable qualities. He deserved the accolades he got in life. He also once said that one day people would hear that he had died, but in fact that was wrong; he was going to see Jesus, and so would more alive than he’d ever been.
What explains that kind of conviction?
Could it be that the so-called secret to his success was that Billy Graham sought to be in God’s will every day, for decades? He did have an advantage that his work life was also his ministry. But the point is, he kept after it.
Romans 8:31 tells us, “If God is for us, who can be against us?”
Graham understood this. It got down in his bones. Preaching around the world for 60 years caused him to trust God even more.
He also had another interesting advantage that enabled him to stay in God’s will at home and at work:
Ruth Graham.
This wonderful woman made sure her husband had a home base that wasn’t chaotic. She too knew God’s will for her life, and so the ministry they did together had an incredible, lasting impact.
Being in God’s will is not something you can compartmentalize, it is a whole-life exercise.
Let’s pray.
Lord, your ways are wonderful, and you are so good to us. Help us live in your will in all aspects of our lives. Amen.
